Have Allergies evolved into IBS?

I wonder if that's what could have happeded with me.

I have had very painful dairy allergy symptoms, but just today the doc. says that I most likely have IBS now. hmmm...

My mom has IBS as well, so I asked the doc. if it is hereditary and he said no.

interesting!

Do I have a rash from Milk protein or ringworm?

IĀ also hava a rash that is itchy. I thought it was from being allergic to milk protein, but my doc. said that I'd have to go to a Allergist to find out. Then he said the rash looks like ring worm.

hmmm...I had that rash checked 2 yrs ago and the doc., then, said that it was allergies to cat hair. Well I havn't had a cat for a year now. and the rash has gotten bigger and it gets redder every once in awhile. The doc. prescribed cream for the rash so we'll see if it takes it away.

Is anyone allergic to milk protein?

and if so have you gotten a rash that was itchy?

What did it look like?

hi DEEZ my name is kira i have done alot of research on ibs since i have been diagnosed with it and what i have found out is.... many things can mimic the symptoms of ibs. I recently read a article about a woman who had severe ibs for years, after years of pain she visited a allergist and he said she was allergic to wheat and once she cut out wheat out of her diet she was fine! so my advice to you is- go to an allergist and figure out what foods you are allergic to and cut those out of your diet and see if it helps???? good luck and God bless

Hi Deez,

about a year ago I came down very sick with bathroom visits from 15-25 times a day! Couldn't stay awake more than a few hours at a time...

Doc started out saying it was IBS...I was taking 6-9 immodium a day and it wasn't helping. After many tests with no answers and one test that showed my IGE antibodies were off, I went on a wheat free diet. Things started to get better....little by little I went off other things like, milk, cheese, artifial colors and flavors. And have made it a very long way since a year ago.

Don't let my situation scare you...I think my case is extreme! But, I do think it would be a good idea to start with wheat and grains.

As I think back...there were some other syptoms that I had before I got extremely sick and one of them was a rash on my face that my doctor shrugged off and gave me antibiotics for. Needless to ssay the rash didn't clear up for awhile and I actually still get a very small amount on my face every once in a while.

If you have an INTOLERANCE to a certain food, the only way to find out is by taking it out of your diet for awhile and see if you feel better. You obviously don't have an ALLERGY to it or you would have had to be taken to the hospital with breathing problems, etc.
An Allergist can't diagnose an INTOLERANCE by testing. Only if you are ALLERGIC to something will it show up.

Good luck and keep me posted!

Good Morning All!

I just wanted to share something that my allergist shared with me many years ago and I'd completely forgotten about it till I was looking back at some of these posts.

He told me he wasn't surprised when I developed GERD, he said in some cases (perhaps not mine) but in many, that even heart disease was brought on by allergies and the inflammation that it was caused by in the arteries. He also said that it could follow that IBS being another type of inflammation could follow as another form of an allergy. He did write a paper on this he told me, though I never questioned him at the time where it was published...but I think it makes sense, as allergies cause inflammation.

Hugs, Teri

Hi Teri,

Would you be willing to ask your doctor about a copy of the article?

Your post sounds familiar to me! I've had GERD for years...hiatel hernia, and last year came down with all of these allergies to food, which pretty much is licked to my IBS. At one point I saw an allergist and he said that my IBS is from Leaky Gut Syndrome....meaning that I'm loosing my proteins, etc. (I think) because my digestive system doesn't work right.

I would love to hear some more information on this topic! I will be going to the University of Michigan June 6th to see a specialist in allergies and immunology...wish me luck!

I will see what I can do! I no longer see him, but can probably find that out...

Shelley, I do wish you all the best of luck!! Please let me know how you're doing!? And I have mentioned this inflammation/allergy stuff before, perhaps that's why it sounded familiar?, also, it is becoming more widely accepted today!

Hugs, Teri smile
