Hey guys (and Sherry!). I have been battling a sinus infection and my primary gave me Nasonex. It has worked wonders! Her nurse told me if I liked it she would call in a prescription for me (as they just gave me a sample). Is it okay to use a nasal spray like that daily? Thanks!

Hi Tab :) Yes, Nasonex can be used everday as a maintenance medication for allergies. Nasonex is a steroid based nasal spray and it's usually not at it's beneficial peak for a few weeks. It does give immediate relief but wait until a few weeks! Then you will feel even better. I personally couldn't do the Nasonex. It made me feel as if I swallowed a sock and it gave me the most horrible tickle in my throat. I'm glad that it's making you feel better.

Um yuck...sounds like it really worked for you. Ha! Ha! I live in the South and it seems like everything is constantly blooming. My hubby uses Flonax (sp?) and has alot of luck with it. Thanks for the info!

As an allergy patient for at least 30 years and asthma for over five years, I think the Nasonex and the Flonase are both safe to use on a regular basis.  They are very different from the nasal sprays such as Afrin that we use to have as only choices that are addictive and also have rebound effects.  I can remember as far back as 25 years ago having to take steroid injections to wean myself off the Afrin and then try to make it through the 24 hours until the steroid kicked in and not use the Afrin.  One of my daughters has really bad allergies and it is now looking like she may have asthma, she knows not to even buy a bottle of Afrin.  I don't know if it is against forum rules to warn others against products, but please don't get into the habit of using any of those nose drops or sprays along the lines of Afrin.

That is perfectly fine Carla - warnings are nice indeed! Yes I totally agree on the Afrin. I used it for a very short time (maybe 2 weeks) due to a severe sinus infection and oh boy was it hard to get off it! I thought I was going to die from the stuffiness.
