For about the last month and a half i have been getting hives everywhere.  they originally started on my legs then went to my sides and now they are on my stomache, sides, chest, arms, legs, back....and in the morning i wake up and i have a couple on my face but they go away after an hour or so, but the other ones stay put.

i went to the doctor 2 weeks after i started seeing them and they gave me a cortisone/steroid shot and they went away completely for 2 days.  then they came back.  i was going through some financial struggles and so i thought maybe they were stress related so i called the doctor and explained that to her and she prescribed me Prozac along with the previous medication of Atarax.  it works when i take it but as soon as the atarax starts wearing off i start itching like crazy again (these medications are not making them disapear they are just easing the itching). when i got them i had just changed laundry detergents but then i changed RIGHT back because i thought that was the reason.  that was 4 weeks ago.  i did get a cat, but if that's it then it took about a month and a half for the hives to show themselves and this cat is different than the other cats i've ever been around because i have never broke oout in hives like this before.

anyways, i'm starting to be able to slowly deal with the itching, it's kind of irritating but i think i'm almost getting used to it.  but they are very unsightly and disgusting looking (all over my stomach, i don't even want my boyfriend to see me sans clothes.) anyways, i just want to figure out what is making my hives bad like this.

anyone with any kind of answer or suggestion, let me know!

HI there, This is Kitt

I am no specialist in allergies but "cat" is the red flag I see along with the stress.  Also you might ask your Physician for a Medrol Dose pack to try to see if the hives go away.  If it is the cat  then you have a problem.  My daughter is allergic to cats and cannot touch them.  They can be around but it is the contact that causes her to  break out.

I hope you get to the bottom of your hives quickly.

this chronic condition can be very frustrating, humiliating and depressing. It can also be fatal if it is severe. I know i suffered from it for about five years and would end up in the emergency room getting pumped with steriods (hmmm). But it was the only thing the doctors knew for a temporary fix. It almost took my life in the end. Now I am free. If you need help you can email me at wfox@frontieradjusters.com and I will try to take the time to talk to you. Good luck, I heard the worst cases can last up to ten years. That you used to scare me, because I didn't think I could live with it for ten years. There is hope.
