so the pedi thinks my son is allergic  to milk due to ezcema on backs of knees and arms at the elbow. we started him on alimuten (sp) by simlac but it is still red so im not sure what to think...i dont want to eliminate milk now that he is about ready to start some table foods if i dont have to but i dont want to continue to expose him if he is...he does not show any other signs. no spit up or throw up no constipation or diarreha some congestion but i have also been sick with a cold so that could be due to that. im just confused

Alimentum is milk-based and may not be sufficiently broken down to avoid triggering a milk allergy. If I were you, I'd switch your son to a completely dairy-free formula for a few weeks to see if the eczema clears up. Eczema can be a delayed-type reaction to foods (including milk), so it may take a while for it to clear once he is on a milk-free diet.

Check out http://nomilk.com/ for more info on milk allergy.

Take care,

Thanks, Razzle.  You really seem to know a lot about food allergies.

Take care!

sbgldngrl,

Welcome to HealingWell. I hope you are able to find some help from the link Razzle gave you.  He really seems to be knowledgeable about food allergies.  I have several food allergies, one of them being milk.  I know as a small child I never drank milk because it made me sick.  I'm not sure what I did as a baby.  I can still remember in the first grade the teacher would make me take a carton of milk and I would put a straw in it and pretend to drink it.  I had told her it made me sick, but she would not listen.  I guess I never thought to have my parents talk to the teacher.  They certainly didn't try to make me drink milk at home.

I always knew milk made me sick, but it wasn't until I was an adult and had the RAST test that I knew I was truly allergic to milk.  I don't get the side effects your son gets, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

I do hope you find your answers very soon.  I know you hate to see your child sick.  Please keep us posted.

Take care!

Carla

Try Nestle formula with prebiotics. It is so much easier for babies to digest. They make for easiest digestion.
