My brother just had "open" surgery for a torn intestine.  He started to feel better after a few days, passed gas normally but still had pain and pressure.  The doctors removed the NG tube on the 5th and a little while later he started vomiting.  The doctors finally did a CT scan which found there was another leak (probably from the original sutures).

He has now been operated on again (1 week after the original surgery).  It's been 4 days since the 2nd surgery.  Can anyone tell me about how much longer he will be in the hospital?  He is finally trying to walk short distances a couple times a day but is still in a lot of pain.  We're mostly worried that the rest of the infection was not cleaned out.  Does anyone have any experiences like this they can share? Thanks!

Hi Wendy, welcome to Healingwell :) I advise you to ask this question on one of our other forums such as: Ostomy, Crohns, or Ulcerative Colitis since this is the Allergies/Asthma forum and we deal with all things related in that category. Good luck and I'm sorry to her that your brother is going thru so much at this time.

I forgot to add that my brother had an ileostomy bag attached after the 2nd surgery...which the dr. said he will need for a few months.  My brother is mostly worried that something didn't go right again.  After they took the NG tube out the first time, he vomited which got rid of the pain and pressure he had been feeling (but vomiting isn't a good sign).  He was passing gas and going to the bathroom too before he vomited.  After two emergency surgeries like this, he is pretty miserable.

Ok, yes....definately post your concerns on our Ostomy forum. They are highly knowledable when it comes to these kinds of things. I wish you both well.
