Mom went in for her glaucoma surgery today, they had her all prepped and ready, then did another BP reading and refused to do the surgery. Sent her home. Told her doing the surgery with her Bp that high could potentially blind her. She tells me she went back on her meds, but I believe thats not true. She goes back to her doctor on wed. to have her meds reevaluated and probably start something new. She's had stroke level BP for over a year now and believes if she just goes on long walks every day it will cure her. Her cholesterol is at a very high level as well. Mom's a walking timebomb and refuses to take care of herself.
I did something mean today but it was out of desperation. She insists at her age if she has a stroke and dies then so be it. I asked her how she felt about
having a stroke and ending up in a vegetative state for possibly years. Perhaps alert
and paralyzed. Maybe I can scare her into taking her meds. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Good judgement comes from experience and alot of that comes from bad judgement.
