I first started taking zoloft foe GAD in 2005. I was only on 50mg and felt great. So great I decided to wean off of it. 6 weeks later I crashed and began to take zoloft again.....this time 100mg was needed to get me back to where I was. I did this for a year and thought i could wean again.

Needless to say Im now taking 200mg. Im maxed out. Are there ant studies out there that support building a tolerance to this stuff>

Dear Redspot,

I do not know about any studies but I have heard that you can build up a tolerance as many times members have their doses increased.

You might hear from another member that has info re studies.

I am sorry you have not been successful weaning off the med and I  hope you are being kind to yourself as it is not a weakness to need the medication.

Hugs

Going on and off the same med does decrease how your body processes it.  When they "if it worked before, so lets use it again," they generally are looking someone who is having problems again maybe 7 years later.  Many people do fine this way, not feeling better for a few months and going back.  You train your your body not to respond to it by on-off-on of the same med.  I would suggest trying something new.

yeah, great point. I went off zoloft last year after tappering for a year (slow) and crashed 5 weeks after i was off it. Tried to go back on and it actually made my life harsh... I had to get off it and on something new.

hang in there

So would another SSRI work or would I have to try another class of drug?

I can answer that..............  :)

Maybe either one.  Sometimes we have to try many drugs to find the right one.  I was on many of the SSRIs and Trycyclics trying to find the best fit.  So it will depend on how your body and the drug like each other.

Good luck and please know that it takes time.  We are here for you.
Hugs
