During my college years I smoked ... Big mistake! The intrusive thoughts started my second semester after pledging a fraternity and being hazed for eight weeks and doing sub-par that semester in my studies. I was also stressed out about a relationship that was in its 5th year yet I wasn't ready to commit. I cant say that my  habit contributed to my current problems, However is is a possibilty. I was smoking with some friends and I had a horrible thought while under the influence that scared me into my first major panic attack. I dont know if  it just a coinsedence?
They just got worse from there.

Hello NoWayOut,

Welcome to HW, I hope we can help you out here. The THC in that drug has been known to cause psychosis in some people, so it may well have triggered your first attack.

Panic attacks are usually something we are genetically pre-disposed to have, so the drug may have been what started it for you. Have you stopped smoking now? Are you seeking treatment for the panic attacks? There are some great treatments out there these days.

I hope the attacks ease, if you haven't seen a professional I really would recommend it. Panic attacks are not something you want to live with (I'm sure you agree!). Best of luck, let us know how you are going. Hang in there. Panic always passes.

Hummm...Pot can make you feel really paranoid and weird. It is my feeling that people with anxiety issues are hyper-sensitive to any abnormal body sensations (I know I am)

Thus I stay away from all such things, alcohol, etc. Because they make me feel "weird" and I don't like it.

But boy I wish I could just have a few martinis!
