I am terribly unsocial, and I have really bad anxiety.  I see a therapist..but this can only help me so much.
My question is, is it hard to get medications for anxiety?
The doctor I have now ( i switched a little over a year ago) I've only seen him twice so far. I never mentioned that I have anxiety because I was there for completely different reasons. How do I bring it up to him? Am I supposed to  ask if there's any medication he can give me? I'm afraid he won't believe that I really need medication and that he'll try and set me up with a counselor, but I alreayd have a counselor I go to on my own time taht he doesn't know about.
Are they usually understanding and willing with medications for anxiety? and also, what are some side effects of more common ones I would be likely to be prescribed?

Good Morning,

The best way to deal with your health issues is to be honest and upfront with your primary physician.  Talk to this person and trust them to know you have anxiety.  Tell them what you have been doing on your own and then you and the physician will decide together what is the route you should go as far as using medications.

Don't be afraid, your physician is there for you.  We are all here for you too.

Keep on talking to us.

Take care,

I would say that most physicians are quite willing to prescribe medications for anxiety, however you might be better off just seeing a psychiatrist for this purpose since they know all the meds very well and will help you find the right ones. A general practitioner is only just familiar with them enough to suggest some to try out.
