Does anyone else feel an increase in hearburn since they started suffering from anxiety? I get heartburn almost daily now, sometimes scares me but i guess the burning is just hearburn since popping a few antacids seem to help.
I read from somewhere else that anxiety/hearburn/gerd easily go hand in hand.

I have heartburn from time to time, but I'm not sure about this. Another member will be on here soon to give better advice to you :)

I have Gerd, (mild) it came after years of anti-depressants. im on prescription antacids to control it. with me, it also flared when i had a rotten gallbladder with stones that needed to be removed. but these days im pretty ok, under control.

Anxiety may cause just about any sx.  If you continue to have Heartburn, please do see your physician for a GI workup. That is just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Sarabi,

I've heard the same thing about anxiety and GERD. Anxiety causes your body to release adrenaline (there is a technical name - but it's beyond me!) and that can irritate your stomach, easoph.. (again the name escapes me!) bowels etc and cause an increase in these sx. I would keep up with the antacids and talk to your doctor about it.

I have LPR (reflux into the throat). It actually caused the symptoms my ER doctors mistook for anxiety for a couple of years, and now that I'm taking reflux meds, those symptoms are under control. Thank goodness it happened, though, or else I'd not have recognized that I do also have anxiety that's been a life-long habit, and not just some doctor's wrong guess.
