shocked  Hi, My name is Amy. I'm nineteen years old and a type one diabetic. I just recently began having panic attacks, and they usually happen when my blood sugar is high. I've been in and out of the hospital/emergency room for the last two weeks now due to my diabetes and the the panic attacks. Well, when I enter the emergency room, the E.R. physicans just kind of shrug it off if it's anxiety. There was one time when I entered the emergency room after feeling light headed and fell, hitting my head on the edge of a coffee table, I began to have a panic attack, not knowing what was going to happen because I never had a good experience in the E.R. Well, an ambulance took me, and before the on call E.R. doctor treated me, or even seen me had ordered to send me to the Psychiatric ward. Is this right? I don't think so. They made me stay there for a night, and I wanted to leave but they kept telling me there was a hold on me so I could not leave. It was a very traumatizing night for me. I didn't belong there. After meeting with a psychiatrist the next morning, he seemed very shocked that I was there. He didn't understand why I was admitted. He just told me to continue what my PCP's medication regimen was, and he apologized. He apologized for me being there. It still makes me so angry. Well, when I came home I found out what a 'hold' means in the psych ward. It means, you're suicidal/or your a harm to yourself or others. I was in NO SUCH condition. We're refusing to pay for the emergency visit and the psych ward. Does anyone agree with this? It's just so frustrating.
Anyways, I used to be on Klonopin(?) and Ativan. I'm still on Ativan and I take when it's needed. The Klonopin was making me unable to walk steadily and causing me to pass out a lot. Did anyone else have these symptoms when they were taking both at the same time? Well I just recently stopped the Klonopin, but I'm still losing my balance for no apparent reason. I'm not sure what's going on. My PCP is ordering a Neuro consult(?) Any one know about these? Not sure.
Any feedback would be appreciated. I just need to hear from someone else.
Thank you!

What was done to you was wrong. I am so sorry you had to go thru that experience. I have a chronic health issue myself, so understand completely how bad stress can be to your diabetes. I sure hope your pcp can help you get to the bottom on why your sugars keep going so high.

Welcome to Healingwell, and we look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Good Luck,

Hello Amy,

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am so sorry you had such a tough experience.  I think I followed your story correctly but I am a bit confused re the "hold"  Were you admitted directly to the Psych Ward or were you seen in the ER first?

I know how difficult it is to have a chronic disorder which labels you and  immediately it is assumed what ever is going on is in your mind.

Again a warm welcome to HealingWell.
