Mizzbeeutiful,

I know exactly how you feel right now girl! I had a horrible (I would call it evil! lol) cold and I couldn't stop coughing I started to have breathing difficulties I ended up in ER three days in a row! It scared the hell out of me because everything related to breathing automatically makes me think of my panic attacks (hyperventilation). If you can go to ER, that is best because they'll know exactly what to do to make you feel better! Keep yourself warm, drink lots of water. Let us know how you are doing when you get back!

Sounds like it could be strep. Some antibiotics will make you feel much better in a day or so. Hang in there!!

Hello to all,

I am sorry to hear you have a sore throat Mizzbeeutiful.

I hope you get relief quickly. I was prone to sore throats when I was a smoker many years ago. Not fun at all.

I do have a question and please all of you do not take this as being judgemental.  I would like to think it is more like helping educate members.

We have urgent care hours in our clinic, it is like a walk in clinic. Anyone can walk in from 8:00 am - 8:00 PM to be seen for any complaint. No appointment necessary. There is a dedicated physician that sees the urgent care patients.  A sore throat can be seen, throat cultures done the whole routine and your out of there much faster then going to the ER.

If you are at urgent care and they decided you are an emergency patient, they will send you to the ER.

These services are available all over the USA as I have used them in Florida and Wisconsin.  Some are stand alone walk in clinics and others are just a part of a clinic.

Urgent Care offers convenient walk-in medical clinics with providers who are available during specific hours to treat any non-life-threatening illness or injury that needs immediate attention. Urgent care is a timely health care solution for families and individuals of all ages, including those who can't get in immediately to see their primary care doctor, are visiting from out of town or are new to the area and currently don't have a doctor. Patients who do not have a life-threatening condition can save time and money by using Urgent Care as an alternative to the emergency room, where waiting times are on the rise

I hope this helps others that are not aware of Urgent Care options.

Thank you

Kitt

I took an ibuprofen before I left the house so I'm feeling a bit better, the nurse checked and he didn't see any white spots so its probably not strep just a really bad sore throat, waiting to see the dr now so I'm passing time on the internet from my phone. The hospital I go to no longer offers a urgent care clinic it was changed to a primary care clinic and there are no more urgent care clinics in the area , so now its pretty much like Garen described you have no choice but to come to the ER and the nurses decided which area you need to go to, such as heart problems, breathing, trauma, and a unit for situations such as mine, but there's no more urgent care, I would've been in the door as soon as it opened today. Thanks for all the well wishes guys,

Kitt, great advice! The urgent care center would be the best place to go first...we need to remember that. Mizz, hope you feel better soon! Hang in there!

Glad you are feeling better today Mizz :) Kitt, that is some great advice! I wish we had something like that in our small burg, but our local hospital is not good to the point where they lost their rights to even deliver babies. . . Someday we will have something more dependable I hope :)

Hello all,

I understand completely if you do not have access to urgent care.  Our ER offers "Fast Track" on Weekends which sounds similar to what your ER is doing in triage.  We only have the 2 choices and we are small town...............You are triaged to ER or Fast Track on week-ends.

I am fortunate to have the urgent care available as it is great for URI, UTI, Headaches, Fever...........etc.

I think the longest I ever had to wait was 10 minutes before I was right into an exam room.

You can all move to MN............. smhair

Hugs

Yeah it is a relief to know what i have, and i'm glad its not strep because that would have meant that i'm contagious and would have had to miss class tomorrow (which i cant, unless i want to be dropped from my lab and lecture class and loose my financial aid). Ice cream and pudding sounds soooooo good right now, but it feels like i'm swallowing rocks whenever i attempt to swallow cry i'm so thirsty right now, not hungry at all i'm just thirsty but its so painful to drink. Anyone have any suggestions on how i can keep some moisture in my mouth without having to drink constantly, cuz its really dry right now shakehead .

Try some shaved ice or freeze pops after taking some pain meds.

(((Mizz))) anything that can melt is easier than anything you have to swallow. I'm glad it's not strep! Feel better soon!

Take care,

Just a quick update....my antibiotics kicked in rather fast and some of the pain and swelling has subsided but it still hurts a bit to talk and swallow but I know I have to attempt to do it or else I'll dehydrate myself...went to class but I really couldn't follow along....too drowsy...but hey at least I showed up though right lol. Next on my list is getting something for this anxiety even though I don't wanna take any meds :-( but if I want my peace of mind back, I gotta do what I need to do to get it!! Thanks again for the well wishes you guys.....I love this forum and everyone here!!

Mizz,

I'm so glad to hear the antibiotics are working for you! yeah Yes, try to drink lots of water although it may still hurt your throat. And don't worry about taking anxiety meds, they are made to make you relax, I've been on it for almost a decade smilewinkgrin and it has helped me tremendously. I would not be able to function well without it.

I am wishing you a speedy recovery!

Yeah it was hard Kitt but I kept a smile on my face the whole time. My appt with my physician is at the end of Feb. I just wish I could see her sooner and I'm hoping she doesn't just blow everything off and say I'm just stressed from school. I know you guys are here that's why I'm always here in the forum, I'm so comfortable here. Thanks everyone (((((HUGS)))))

Congrats Mizz :) I'm glad you are feeling better and hopefully your doc will sort you out on some meds for your anxiety. I have also been taking them for over a decade and they have been a lifesaver :)
