Hey everyone. Does anyone get very anxious and panicy when they have a head cold and mainly congestion? Am I weird? I have a sinus infection or a cold and it is better today except now it is in my lungs. I dont want to get out of bed cause it is making me short of breath. Does anyone else feel this way?
Thank you

congestion makes it hard to breathe freely, so you have to work harder which can lead to hyperventilation, which in turn causes anxiety. i have a chronic sinus condition for which i have had surgery and am recovering from pneumonia. while it doesnt make me anxious, being short of breath for a long period of time is stressful both mentally and physically.

Hey there my friend, I get anxious with any nasty upper respiratory infection. I know Maz has lots of experience with sinus issues and she has answered you well too.
I hope your feeling better soon.
Hugs to you

I don't know of a soul, anxiety disorder or not, who LOVES having congestion, especially in the chest! 8)

I would think it quite natural to feel some anxiety. Being sick sucks! Perhaps reminding yourself that everyone feels some anxiety might help?

I know, for me, I HATE feeling like I can't breath well, and I COMPLETELY understand how you feel...

"Come to the edge," he said.
"We're afraid!" they replied.
"Come to the edge," he said.

He pushed them, and they flew...

Yep, it makes me anxious every time. The congestion makes you feel like you can't breathe and it's scarey. I take Benadryl when I have colds. It helps a lot. Make sure you ask a pharmacist before taking any new medications. I sure hope you feel better! I can totally relate.

Yeah it is horrible. I thank you all for being a great support system and family, I know I can always depend on you all in time on need with this anxiety junk. Im not as congested today its draining alot more and making me cough really hard and I almost throw up. :( Anyways I woke up this morning at like 7 and my heart was racing out of my chest so I took a fourth of a xanax, and went back to sleep. Then I woke up a little later feeling very anxious so I took another fourth. But everytime I would wake up I could barely keep my eyes open so i would just fall back to sleep. Could the congestion and cold cause this? And does Mucinex 600 mg guaifenesin extended-release bi-layer tablets just the regular expectorant make anyones heart race or make them feel funny?
