I know a lot of you here are further along the road to recovery, but kitt said to post my own topic so I hope what I have to share is useful to someone on here?
I have found cbt to be really effective for my anxiety and depression. I started countering my thoughts in TEA forms last January after my therapist gave me the short book cbt book by sam obitz titled been there, done that? do this! The progress I have realized in the past five months has been nothing short of incredible for me. I thought I was doomed to a life full of misery and medications but I finished therapy a few weeks ago and feel like I am able to stand on my own now. It turns out there was never really anything wrong with me, it was the way I was processing all my thoughts that was causing my physical and anxiety problems. I realize I need to continue working and learning and that's why I am here. I have already learned a lot reading others notes and love that several here are finding hope like I have through cbt.

You are a wonderful person that has anxiety, remember it does not have you. You are among the millions of people that have this disorder and you can learn how to get past the anxiety.

When your fears have the best of you, it is easy to feel that things will not get any better. This is not true. There is much help available in today’s society and the best way to deal with your fears is to find effective ways to overcome them. Instead of focusing on doom, stay in the moment. Give yourself breathing space. Consider what matters to you. Establish a few manageable goals, then take small steps toward achieving them. Don’t try to start everything at once as you may be setting yourself up for failure.

Please know coming here is a wonderful and courageous step. You are voicing your fears so you know what they are. We are right here with you.

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could."

Ben I hope it works well for you and I am happy to hear I have given you some hope. It is tough to grasp initially but when you figure out how to counter your thoughts in the TEA forms you start making progress pretty quickly. Coming up with good counter thoughts was probably the hardest part for me. Keep in touch and good luck!

Great story and good job to you smilewinkgrin Thanks for sharing and i hope you are keeping with it. I use the TEA forms everyday and I feel they are the key exercise in CBT that has helped me personally the most. Keep doing them and I am sure you will continue to feel even better!

Thx and I appreciate the support. I am pretty religious now about countering my thoughts in the TEA forms everyday now and feel like I am growing and getting a lot better at doing them and they seem to be working better for me too.

Good to hear from everyone and I hope all are doing well. I'm good and apologize for disappearing, life has just been passing by so fast lately but I think of everyone all the time and will try and check in and offer whatever i can more often. So glad CBT is helping so many more these days tongue

Thanks daft and I am sorry I have not been able to spend more time here supporting others. Time is passes so much faster than when I was anxious all the time, which is a fair trade off but I'd like my life to slow down a little. Does that make me a greedy person? I hope not. Good to hear from you tongue
