Anyone who has both anxiety and GERD... how do you know which is which? I was recently told I have reflux and given Protonix. However, I just started Effexor too for the anxiety. I don't want to take them both right now because I won't know what is working and what's not. Symptoms seem to mirror for both and I was wondering how to tell the difference.

I have both GERD and AP, but im not sure i can be of much help- i cant explain it, but i am very aware of which is which. my body can tell the difference between really nasty acid reflux etc and panic. I know others find them hard to handle together, i hope someone with more experience with this can help you- just wanted you to know you are not alone!

Thank you stkitt!!! That was helpful. Explains the hoarseness and coughing I've been having too. I guess I was hoping that I just had a serious panic attack instead. :( Not that I want panic attacks mind you. I guess I'll keep taking the Protonix and start keeping a log of symptoms and what I ate or did before the symptoms came on.

Thanks again for your help!
