Trying to take long and deep breath again for I found myself hyperventilating and my heart racing again.

Any suggestions to calm my nerves down and not launch a panic attack today?

Try a visual relaxation technique. Picture a calming relaxing place. Some place you enjoy. A place you would like to visit or have been to. Picture it full of color's, clouds, sky, sun, trees, (whatever you like). Just make sure its relaxing.

For me its a mountain side with green grass. Tall pine trees and a creek babbling in the back ground. I picture myself sitting under the tree on a quilt. Reading a book with my back resting against the tree.

The more details you focus on putting into your image. The less time and effort you have to put into your panic attack. Now while I'm pitureing this. I force myself to breath. Slow calm breaths. Then I relax from head to toe. Hands, arms, legs are relaxed. In threw the nose out threw the mouth.

If I start to stray I force myself to show more detailed images. Focus on the color of the clouds. Do they have shapes? Are they big and buffy. Or a little darker like light rain is hitting the forest in the distance. Is it an apple tree or a pine tree with pine cones and a squirrel.

You have to focus. And DO not allow your mind to wonder away from this picture. That is the most important part. It takes some practice. But I find myself totally relaxed and refreshed in about 5 minutes. If you are at work. Find yourself a place you can sit for a few minutes. Make sure its a quite place. Get a relaxing sound cd. Those help also.

This has worked wonders for me the past year or so.

Good luck. Training the mind is not easy. Especially when it is working against you. But with some practice and effort you can do it too.

Take Care

I really need this today. I'm having the old symptoms, numbness in my arms. Almost went to the ER yesterday. Going to PT today to see fi I pinched a nerve. I've had all my cardiac tests but I still have the thought that I'm having a heart attack. I really hate it. MY husband looks at me now like "Not this crap again". It makes me want to crawl under a rock.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll try it next time. I was able to stop the pending panic attack by slowing down a bit, meditating and writing down all the things that bothers me.

Nope, I'm not taking any medications.
