Hello all!
I am new to the forum but have to admit I've been reading many posts for a few days!
I am 35 and been dealing with my anxiety disorder and panic attacks for many many years.  To give a little history....I was on Paxil in my early 20s and was off my meds for 8years!  Then when I got engaged started having them again...Lexapro but went off that when we decided to try for a baby.   I went off birth control and the Lexapro and had to start Zoloft during fertility treatments, I started at 50mg and it seemed to work up until I went back to work after the baby and I increased to 75mg last summer, in June I incxreased to 100mg because my anxiety was increasing again out of the blue.  I started tracking my anxiety and have realized it occurs mostly mid cycyle through my period, the week on my period being the only peaceful relaxing week!  I get hot flashes, trembling, panic attacks, headaches, etc all the classic anxiety symptoms but my anxiety heightens because I think something else is wrong!  I have been such a mess the last 6 months or so and have an appt. with my OB tomoorow.  I guess my question is do many of you think this is hormonal or anxiety??  Its hard to distinguish between the two which causes the viscious cycle!!  Are there any success stories on what has helped any of you with similar symptoms I can ask my OB about??  I don't want to keep increasing my Zoloft if it won't help or will heighten my anxiety more!  And we want to have another baby soon so I think I am limited in meds I can take during pregnancy.   Thank you so much for any input/suggestions.  I am glad I found this forum because I thought I might be driving myself crazy!!!

It is not uncommon to have increased anxiety with your cycle. I have one week a month that I'm "OK". The other 3 weeks are not so great. One week before during and one week after I'm a wreck.
And my cycle isn't every month. But I get the symptoms every month. Its not fun at all.

I have like you dealt with anxiety for many many years. My ob suggested that I have surgery and not worry about a cycle anymore. But that just caused increased anxiety.. worrying about surgery.. In the long run might be better.. Short term. doesn't look pretty in my book.

Anyway. There is not much that can be done about anxiety and our cycles. Xanex might help ease some of the issues. But with another baby in thought you might not want to take another med.

I would maybe check out cbt. And some breathing techniques that might help you ease some of the anxiety.

Thanks for the response.....I did check out the postings on the older thread as well.
Its encouraging to know I am not crazy but also discouraging to think there is not much that can be done about it.  I thought I had a decent grasp on my anxiety until this cycle thing and one thing I'm not used to this time around is the emotional spurts where I want to cry about it!  Anyway, we'll see if the doc has any suggestions tomorrow!  Thanks this forum!

I use to be miserable every month because of my hormones. If it does turn out to be hormones, I am wondering if the birth control pill in the meantime might help out. I know that made a big difference for me, I had less of the crazy swings when I was on the pill. Hope that helps some.

So my OB told me it was very normal to feel increased anxiety/symptoms with my cycles, especially after having a baby because our bodies become so much more sensitive to the hormonal changes.  She told me I have 3 options....Increase my Zoloft to 150mg 2 weeks prior to my period although she was doubtful it would help any; try to get pregnant soon since we want a 2nd child so my hormones will level out, or go on The Pill for about 6months to relieve the symptoms and then try for the baby.  Hmmmmm......don't want to go on The Pill so I'll stick out feeling miserable 2-3 out of 4 weeks a month?????!!!!!!  I've been practicing my breathing exercises daily and it seems to help some; I've also cut back drastically on caffeine intake as I didn't even realize I was drinking so much.  I think I might look into acupuncture!  Has anyone tried it???  I think I have now had every imaginable anxiety symptom possible over the years. ARGHHHHHH!
