focusing on heartbeat, anyone have skipped feeling heartbeats with anxiety?

k i feel anxious today- not sure why.  i am going out tonight with some gfs and want to have fun but sometimes i'd rather just stay home.  does that mean i have social anxiety?  ugh!!  i feel like when i check my heartbeat it's slow faster slow faster. am i crazy???haha  i feel axious about going out because i know when i wake up from a night of drinking - my heart beats alot faster and i hate it.  even when i drink just 2 or 3 drinks.  alcohol affects me weird.  when i'm tired, i have more anxiety - too so i want to have fun but i just can't relax about it like my friends can.  i hate this!!!!!!
does anyone else focus on their heartbeat?  i'm going to have to go for a walk or something to stop this worrying.  it's stupid!  i turn 40 tonight and i'm still single - another major anxiety causing factor for me.

Hey there, may I suggest you stop taking your pulse as everyones pulses will slow don and speed up all day long.

If you are worried about how you will feel tomorrow perhaps not drinking alcohol is something to try. I drink Diet Coke and have just as much fun as drinking alcohol and no headache in the morning.

Hi..i was like you and used to check my pulse all the time...I think its just part of anxiety, but i dont do it anymore unless i have some palpatations or something and i will...I used to take my blood pressure constant too...I have stopped that too......I do not drink anymore at all because it does stir up my anxiety because if if feel funny i panic .....So try not to drink.....You can still have fun....Get u a virgin drink like a margarita without the alcohol...... Try and not worry......and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU !!

drinking alcohol in any form will really rev up my anxiety. I will feel like I'm dying the next day. I've gone to the ER thinking I'm having a heart attack. I just can't believe it's anxiety causing my heart to run wild and seem to miss beats and my chest will hurt so bad between my breasts. I've had tons of tests done and they all come back ok. I have to accept it's anxiety that's causing my symtoms. Drinking is just not worth it. I've quit and will never drink again. I quit two years ago on September 28th. I also quit smoking. I feel better for it. I still have anxiety but not as bad and I haven't gone to the ER in a long time.

I have also went through this, and a good rule of thumb is to just not drink alchohol. Usually 1 or 2 drinks is okay, but more is not only bad for the A/P but your overall health in general. I have just as much fun with my friends and family sober as I do with a few drinks anway, lol :)

Hi there,

I know exactly what that's like. I used to be absolutely obsessed with my heartbeat! I worried it was irregular, too slow, too fast, too strong, too weak, everything!

What works for me is distraction. Try going for a walk, singing, watching a good movie, or putting on headphones with a song you really like playing.

Also, I'd avoid the alcohol all together. Alcohol can make your heart beat irregularly (not dangerous usually) but that can really trigger panic.

Don't mind this but going our with "gfs" (that is more then one at the same time) will get anyone anxious.
There is a general notion that says 95% people can't count their heartbeat correctly as it gets out of routine when you are actually cautious about it.

     OMG! I have the same thing you are not alone. A friend whos a nurse tells me I am so in tuned with my body that I am sensitive to changes or things going on that most people wouldnt notice. Alcohol has the same affect on me also as do for many people. I constantly check my heartrate and when I am tired or not feeling well it is far worse. They call this "checking in". Trying to work through all this myself I do not take meds on a daily basis and only use an ativan when I have an intense panic attack. Fortunately that is not too often. It would be better if you will stop drinking to get rid of anxiety, and stop worrying about your age.
Anxiety can control you, and your life will be affected. Your anxiety only exist after you drink. So better quit drinking.
