I keep reading horror stories about xanax and it's giving me more anxiety. I take .25 to sleep at night. I tried to sleep without it but Im up all night. Do u think it's the Zoloft that keeps me up? I take it in the morning 75mg - 5 weeks. I wish something else could help, but Im afraid to experiment because if it doesnt work Ill have a sleepless night.

Good Morning Sunshine,

I would stop reading all the horror stories on meds and look for the good outcomes.  It is always good to find a balance between the good and the not so good and then make your own informed decision.

We have a great search feature here in the forum and I know there are a ton of threads that speak to the use of Xanax.  Just click on the search feature tab above and you can type in the word Xanax, used for Anxiety and you should find lots of info already posted.

Here is a link from our own resources that you may find helpful also:

I wish you peace,

I am someone who is successfully treating my anxiety with Xanax. I do not use it everyday, but do use it about 1-3 times a month. For me its a lifesaver, as when I feel the anxiety ramping up, I take my Xanax at the first hint and it stops it in its tracks. I take the lowest dose available, just like you do. If the Xanax is working for you, that is whats important.

.25 mg of Xanax a day is a very, very low dose.  If it is helping you and that is all you are taking, don't worry about it.  At one time I was on 4 mg a day and have worked my way down to .75 mg per day.  I feel very happy that I was able to do that.  Ww are all different and respond to meds differently.  Call your Dr. about the Zoloft, it may be causing problems.  I was never able to take anti-depressants well.  Buspar is the only other rx that has helped that I can tolerate.

You are going to be OK, enough with the horror can find them everywhere about anything.

Besides anxiety I also have bipolar.  Xanax is the only thing that helps my racing mind slow down/shut off so that I can fall asleep.
I have been on it for years with no problems.  I take 1mg.
I also use it as a last resort to help with my anxiety after all my other options like deep breathing etc., haven't worked.
As long as you're not getting carried away with it all day long, you won't have a problem IMO.
Sleep well!

Try to limit the intake of medication. They will give you more side effects which you have also to deal with.

Do not depend on medications. Try some other natural ways of controlling your anxiety

Cassandra I respectfully disagree. We are none of us mental health professionals and we should not be instructing people on how 'you' think they should manage their disorder. That is for the patient and their doctor to decide.
Some of us need meds to get by, myself included. On top of the Zoloft, I am on the maximum dose of Xanax and it has been a life saver for me. I would not cope without it. Of course natural remedies can assist with anxiety but advising someone to 'limit' their meds is a little irresponsible as it is a deeply personal and indivual thing.
I choose to put up with the side effects in order to maintain a 'normal' life. Some people need to depend/rely on meds to cope with their illness. Respectfully-
