sad  I have had panic and anxiety for several years, i have been on paxil cr for 5 yrs and it seemed to help, last week i got a phone call from my mom that my little brother is a paranoid schizofrenic, shocked   every since then i have got my anxiety back 10 fold, I have this overwhelming fear that it's somehow going to happen to me. I was giving xanax to help and it does but i still can't beat down the thoughts. I don't hear voices or see things but i catch myself questioning my every thought it even interuptes my sleep, afraid i'd lose it or god forbid lose my family or hurt them . doctor upped my paxil to 50mg a day and i still have these thoughts. i'ts like if it happened to my little brother it's going to happen to me. any help will be appreciated.

Hello Etines,

Welcome to HW and our Anxiety-Panic Forum :) I am sorry to hear about your brother and I could understand where that would freak you out. Many us us that suffer from A/P have went through thoughts like these from one time to another, and you have to keep striving to move forward. I think at this time it would be in your best interest to go talk with your doctor about the issues you are dealing with and have him/her lead you into the right direction such as some therapy or even to adjust your meds. In the meantime you should stick with us to get the good peer support that you need right now, and please check out our Anxiety-Panic Resources thread at the top of our Forum Page. In that thread there are links to free online CBT (therapy) & Relaxation/Breathing Exercises :)

I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted!

Hi- and welcome! Ive suffered from severe Panic Disorder which lead to Agoraphobia and OCD since I was 10yrs old. My immediate family are all mentally stable, however I have had aunts, uncles and a grandparent with Schizophrenia and Bipolar. I use to worry that I would get it, but I dont anymore. Having a chemical imbalance like I do as well as the mood disorder is quite different from having a pyschotic episode. Dont allow yourself to dwell on this- look at the positives and the progress you have already made in your life and go from there.

All the best,

Maz XX
