I had to go to the health dept to get shot, I am in a panic attack right now thinking I am going to have a reaction to the shot. Every nerve in my body is on alert for the throat to swell shut hives, I am so dizzy right now and of course in my mind it's from the shot, I tell myself I have to wait at least 4 hours to see if I am going to have any reaction to it. This is crazy I get the flu shot every year by my own Dr and never had a reaction, why all this panic right now, my cheast feels tight dizzy feels like I cant breath, can someone just tell my it's all anxiety. Help Please

Both shots are made in the same way that past shots have been. The only thing you really have to worry about is if you're allergic to eggs. The most common side effect is soreness at the site of injection. Some experience mild flu-like symptoms as their body's immune system reacts to the vaccine and builds antibodies. Before last year I never had a flu shot before, and all I got was a very mild fever for about an hour or two. Barely noticed it. I took my mom and grandmother to get theirs when it first came out and neither had any reaction at all.

I think you'll probably be fine.

Sorry you are going through this and I think the best thing for you to do right now is to do some breathing/relaxation exercises, then maybe get up and take a walk to get your mind off of your anticipatory/health anxiety :) Or maybe just find a good book to read. . . Just something that makes you happy.

Good luck!

I agree with Debaser and Sam you really need to distract yourself. This vaccine shot is NOT going to hurt you, if anything you will get a sore arm for a day or two. Relax, you will be fine.

Its just the anxiety going wild. I did the same thing the other day. It was not with flu shot but with antibiotics. I have to start taking antibiotics before dental work and it was my first time having to do so. Well I read that some people could die if they are allergic, you know like stop breathing and breaking out in hives. WEll it took everything I had to even take the medicine and after I took it, I was just waiting for something to happen. I did not want anything to happen but I was just freaking myself out. I started to feel like I could not breath and got dizzy and heart pounding out of control. I hate that I do this to myself. I want to control this but sometimes it just happens. I wish I could get the flu shot but I would be the same way you were. I hope that I will soon overcome this anxiety.
