I wrote a little while back about how I am worried about my mom's health. Well, today, I was reading a short article in a mini health magazine that I received in the mail, about COPD. My mom has every single one of the early warning signs that was listed! shakehead   I brought it to her attention and she said "Well, I have a lot of symptoms of all kinds of things!" I think what she was basically saying is that her symptoms can relate to all sort of different things and thus, she dismissed the info.
I know that I can't do anything else to try to get her to the doctor. I have tried. I've cajoled and I've pleaded and I've cried. She finally agreed to go to the doc...but with the stipulation that she wouldn't get any ordered tests as we can't afford them. It is true that like so many folks today, we are having some serious money issues. We're having to watch every dime now. I knew it would get to this point. Also, she doesn't have any insurance and won't qualify for medicare for another 15 months. She won't go to the low-cost clinic here as they treated me abominably. The clinic is so short of doctors that it takes forever to get an appt. And lastly, BUT NOT LEAST, she probably wouldn't go if she had $100,000 in the bank. She's just so anti-doctor.
I guess I'm just posting this so I can vent my worry. I have a headache and feel sad...a bit teary actually.
Thanks for listening yet again to my harping.

Good Morning JL,

I am glad you are venting here in the forum as we are here to listen and to let you know we support you. I think you have the right to feel sad about your Mom's health issues. (((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))

I know you have read about COPD but I wanted to post what I know re this disorder.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to a group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it increasingly difficult for you to breathe.

Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the two main conditions that make up COPD, but COPD can also refer to damage caused by chronic asthmatic bronchitis.

Most COPD is caused by long-term smoking and can be prevented by not smoking or quitting soon after you start. Damage to your lungs can't be reversed, so treatment focuses on controlling symptoms and minimizing further damage.

Perhaps if your Mom goes to the Drs. for a check up she may change her mind and agree to some minor, noninvasive tests that the Dr. may suggest like a simple CXR.

The best you can do is continue to talk to her and let her know that you would feel so much better if she would see the Dr. You are a wonderful daughter and you and your Mom are so fortunate to have each other.
