Hi everyone,

Ugh, my anxiety had been pretty much under control for a few years but I recently relocated to another state away from most of my friends, started a new job and ended a relationship, and now my anxiety is back in full swing! (I guess most people would have anxiety with all this transition, lol).

I've been taking 100mg per day of 5HTP for a while with good results. My doctor pushed my dose up to 150mg per day while I"m in this transition to take the edge off. I just started the increased dose yesterday, and my body/brain are not reacting well. Yesterday I had increased anxiety. I had terrible nightmares last night and today I feel nauseus, dizzy, sensitive to light, and on the verge of panic. I keep thinking about every situation in my life with the most negative possible spin and can't seem to snap out of it. I knew to expect some of this, since medication adjustments can make symptoms worse before they make them better, but this feels really awful! I remember having some symptoms like this when I first went on the 5HTP (which was a long time ago and then things evened out quickly), but I don't remember them being this bad.

Is this normal? It will pass, right? I just want to feel like myself again!!

I am not familiar with dosing guideline for 5HTP.  I am sorry to hear you are going through a tough time but suspect some of it is recent major changes.  For many of us, disruption to familiar routine sparks anything from mild anxiety to extreme terror.
Try to take it one day at a time and yes,  I do believe you will get through this is you allow yourself to feel and not get caught up in the anxiety.  Be good to yourself and congratulate yourself on how far you have come already.
Gentle Hugs,
