Good to meet you. I am 35yrs old and found out this year that I had Asperger's Syndrome this was a great relief for me as it explained my life and I could piece all the parts of my life together and start to make sense of every thing. I have suffered with bad anxiety all my life and have always had problems in social situations and interaction but only started to get help in 2007 when I was diagnosed with GAD and depression and I also have a lot of OCD. When I was growing up I felt different and did get bullied at school to make things worse I had dyslexia which made learning a lot more difficult, I found out recently that it is common to have both Asperger's and Dyslexia.
Asperger's Syndrome only became an official diagnosis in 1997 by which time I had long left school, My psychiatrist said that I had learned to cope with the traits of Asperger's by avoiding the things which made me anxious but over the years of doing this I made my situation worse.
I have also tried lots of medications with out much success which indicated to my psychiatrist that it was a wiring problem not a chemical imbalance. If you have any questions feel free to ask I am not on here as often as I used to be but will keep an eye out so do feel free to ask me any questions.
A good place to start is http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php which will give you an indication of were you are on the scale and as you said you may or may not decided to have an official diagnosis.
I try not to worry about
the future -- so I take each day just one anxiety attack at a time.
