I'm still worried about the brain tumor thing even though I had a CT scan 6 weeks ago. Sometimes I think I see funny. Dont know how to explain it. I had this about 6 years ago a headache for at least a year. It really hurts in my neck and shoulders. Today I leaned over and saw stars. Would you all be satisfied with the CT scan. And being that My neck and shoulders hurt its just tension?

I know it's hard not to worry. After having an EKG I started wondering, what if something came up since the test? What if the doctors missed something? All those "what ifs" can really get us in trouble. You had the test done and as hard as it may be you have to make a conscious decision to either accept the results or to not accept the results. Nobody can force you to accept them.

But I would point out that one thing we can say and be completely sure of is that worrying will not make things better. You'll only cause more pain (emotional and physical) by constantly worrying. If you're having stress based tension but never relax you won't have a chance to "prove" that it's stress induced tension (because it'll never let up).

So look at the two possibilities. (1) It's tension and you continue to stress and worry. This leads to anxiety, panic, and more tension creating an unending cycle. (2) It's more than anxiety. Worrying will not make things better, but only cause more anxiety and tension. And if it were something more than tension (I'm not a doctor) but it's my understanding that tumors take time to grow. If you get retested in six months, a year... whatever, that may still be considered catching it early.

But (as hard as it is) you need to remind yourself that life doesn't always provide 100% guarantees and that the best you can do is trust the people who are trained professionals that when they say you're healthy that you are. Anxiety can do some crazy stuff to your mind and body. Try to let go of the fear for a few days. Tell yourself that you can always worry about it later, but at least for now you need a mental break.

Hi Mary, maybe it would help to make a list of the facts. I do this when I need assurance on something

Reasons to think it is not a brain tumor:
1-clean c.t. scan
2-tension in shoulders and neck-causes headaches, not a brain tumor symptom
3-diagnosed health anxiety by dr./common fear of those with health anxiety is fear of cancer, ect...
4-you have had these symptoms before (6yrs. ago) and you are still here!
5-all symptoms you have described can be attributed to anxiety
6-Doctor, and everyone here agrees that you are suffering from anxiety, not an organic illness
7-specifically brain tumors/cancer are not known to be genetically linked like some other cancers (you were concerned re: your brother)

Now...
Reasons to think that it is a brain tumor...
1-because you think it is.

I hope that this does not come off as harsh. I don't mean it to be, but sometimes we have to be tough with our anxiety. It wants to own you-you can't let it. It wants to control you and your thinking-it's time to take the control back. Print out this list, or make your own and when you feel scared/worried, look at it. These are true facts, let them give you some power over this.
Do this for a couple of days and see if it helps-it can't hurt!
Take care and be well, you are going to be fine.

Scaredy Cat is right! My therapist has me do this all the time.. Write things down Mary, it really does help! It's part of anxiety's nature to make you jump to the worst case scenario (I can't tell you how many times I've thought that I had cancer, or was pregnant, etc) with absolutely no grounds. Your brain can trick you into sensing things that aren't even there and can make connections that don't exist.

Read over SC's list when you feel really anxious. I feel like it will help :)
