I was wondering if anybody else has this? I am on mine and I have wicked anxiety!!!! I dont know if its that or not. Just wondering if it is something usual for us anxious women to be worse when aunt flow visits?
Also wondering, what to do???

Hi Rb, yes this is very common not only during menstration, but also during peri-menopause starting around 35yrs.+ Women who have preiviously never had anxiety before can experience it at this stage in life for the first time. There are quite a lot of threads on this topic in the archives if you want to check them out. Some other things to try are:
Soy soy/products
increase dairy
evening primrose
These are all natural, and should be started the week before, and through the cycle for less PMS and anxiety symptoms. I hope this helps!
Take care,

Hi raynebow Yes, it makes anxiety worse because of PMS that's what my dr told me, since two weeks before i got my period I had an anxiety attacks and then one week before and when I was on it too.  My dr told me that is normal because of the hormones level or something. I freaked out because I am one medication for anxiety and I had been feeling better and then Premenstrual syndrome lol, and my anxiety was worse.  I hope that this helps and you feel better in a couple of days

Me too! I have been having horrible anxiety starting about 2 weeks before my period at ovulation. It seems my only good week now is the week of my period! I just started experiencing this after being off the pill and having my babies, docs dx me with PMDD. Great!  Just what I need, more anxiety!!  PLus, I am 36 and possibly perimenopausal too?  Hormones Hormones...love being a woman!! I am really struggling right now trying to remind myself that the anxiety I am feeling now is cycle related.  I'm going to try the Cycle Diet I found online.

I have a very noticeable increase in anxiety before my period starts and for the first day or two after it's begun. Once I'm about halfway through my period my anxiety levels usually return to their "base level," unless something else is also going on in my life. It's a real nuisance, but I've kind of come to expect now, so I'm more prepared. I just try to tell myself that my anxiety is higher than usual and my depression is worse during those times, and that sometimes helps put me at a bit more ease. But hormones can be hard to boss around!

Its so nice to see that others are experiencing the same symptoms around their cycles! I am really trying to accept the fact that being a woman causes a lot of our anxiety due to hormonal shifts. I feel like a born again teenager having to learn about my cycles again after having babies and being off the pill. I have been reading about the process over and over and have ordered a book on Women, Hormones, & Moods. Love to hear what works for most people as I am really looking into the dietary relationship to my cycles. Ha and I am a registered dietitian! Has anyone taken Zoloft for PMS or PMDD as my docs seem to think it will help with it as well. On my second week at 150mg; and my Vitamin D level came back low so doc has me taking Vit D once/week for 8 weeks and then rechecking levels.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Sometimes it's my only saving grace to remind myself what time of the month it is so I can calm down. I know the same issue would not even cause me to blink an eye at another time.
Problem is- by a blood test I just found out I am POST menopausal. I will get my period for the last (?) time when I finish my pack of pills and the doctor says I don't need them anymore.- The pills have been causing me to bleed/have hormonal changes right before....not sure what will happen now.

I was just going to start a post asking this very question. I am on my period and feel so weird, shaky, nervous and panicky for no good reason!! It has to be the hormones or something and I am peri- menopausal so that certainly doesn't help either.

Hey All,
I am bringing up the end on this post ~ been away for a few days.  I think anxiety has always been an issue for women and menses.  Great input from all !
