Just thought I'd share this story. I think it's kind of funny and I've been focusing in the past few months on trying to be more positive and more present in the moment.
My mother and stepfather live next door to a very sweet 87 year old woman. She lives with her son who has been away on vacation. Over the weekend the four of us got together for dinner and had pizza.
Everyone was sitting down as I
opened the two boxes and started cutting the slices. I gave out the first two and then gave my mother a slice. I mistakenly gave her the wrong kind (different toppings). No big deal though.... she just took her plate and switched it with my empty one. I gave her a new slice and we all began eating. about
ten minutes later my eyes grew really wide. I started looking around the table, under the plates, under the pizza boxes, and under my pizza. I realized that I had put one of my Xanax pills on my plate as we were setting the table. The pill was small and blended in with the color of the plates.
But remember my mother and I had switched plates. The pill was not under my slice, her slice, the plates, the boxes, etc. We couldn't find it. Apparently she must have eaten it without realizing it. I started worrying about
interactions with her own medications. Fortunately a few days later (today) I found the pill on the floor. Somehow it had made it all the way across the room which is apparently why we couldn't find it on the floor that evening. Now we can look back and laugh.
