So I am new here...just recently started having panic attacks and realized it was much worse during my period. I am 37. So, I went to the OBGYN...and he had informed me that we all think PMS is bad during our teen and early 20's, but it actually doesn't really start until we are in our mid to late 30's and older. He told me that as we get older our hormones can't level out as fast as they used to when we were younger and it is NOT uncommon to feel like, as I explained it going through puberty again, with such crazy emoitions and then adding panic attacks to it, I thought I was really going crazy.
So, the most common "cure," I use this loosely for lack of a better word, is to be put on Sarafen, which is another name for Prozac, he has informed me that 90% of his patients who are on this do really well and become back to feeling more normal and beg him never to take them off of it, because they are a better person while on it.
I don't know I just started the Prozac, it takes 1 to 2 weeks to feel any effects and 4-6 weeks before you feel the full effect, so I am just waiting and waiting. I am on day4 of the medicine. I am still taking my xanax, which the Dr. put me on immediatley after having the first couple of panic attacks and they are Ok to use together. I would ultimately like to just be on the Prozac and hope that it does it job. We will see I guess. I just hate this feeling of total desperation......
Hope this helps
