You made some very good points in your post. When I was first put onto medication I was expecting a cure all pill and that I would just wake up one day and feel normal. I soon discovered that would not be the case and that I had a lot of work ahead of me to learn how to deal with my anxiety/depression.
The first thing for me was to except that I was always going to be anxious but that I could learn to use different techniques through therapy that could lesson the anxiety to a more manageable level so it did not affect my life so much. The medication will only help with the symptoms but my symptoms are such that medication is required to make things easer for me.
I have done cognitive analytical therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, counseling, group therapy and I am due to start a mindfulness course soon. What I have found is different types of therapy bring different things and I learnt a lot of new things about
myself and now have a good understanding of the way things tick for me. All of these require a lot of work and once the therapy has stopped you need to carry on and they all for me worked well alongside medication.
Anxiety/depression can have a major impact on your life and we are all on the same journey which is why it is good to come here and speak with others who can relate to what you are going through and get support. We are all different and what has worked well for one member may not work for another.
Medication is a very personal thing and for me at has been an essential part of my recovery. My aim is to reduce at some stage the amount of medication I take but due to having Aspergers Syndrome may not be completely medication free.
As Kitt said there has been great comments form every one on this thread and a good debate has been had rather than members being judgmental on how other members have choice to deal with there symptoms of anxiety. This is why I love this forum and feel it really is a positive place to come were you can feel supported.
