I took half a .25 Xanax at 1pm at around 3pm I felt this hot feeling around my face. And started getting an anxious feeling deep in my belly but was able to get over it by continuing to do my housework and it eventually faded.

I took a 1/4 of 100mg of Zoloft at 6pm and around 7pm I got the same feeling but my heart is racing, anybody had any similar symptoms.

Last night was the first time I took Zoloft. I had the same heart racing and was awake all night tossing and turning. Is this normal?

If you have a good relationship with the doctor who prescribed you the meds, I would call them to ask about the insomnia and heartbeat. Whenever I'm going on a new med or going off of a med, I try to call the psychiatrist and let them know how I'm doing to know if the side effects I'm undergoing are reasonable. (I tend to have pretty bad side effects from medication.)

What I do know is that insomnia is a common side effect for SSRI medications like Zoloft. It might be worth it call your doctor and see if you could take it in the morning; that might help.

Otherwise, the best advice I have for you is distract, distract, distract (as much as that's possible) from your physical symptoms until they start to fade. I will be starting Prozac on Friday and am not looking forward to the side effects from starting it. We're in the same boat. :(

Feel better!

Thanks Av,

I sent my dr and email last night and I look forward to her response this morning. The heartbeat luckily went away after an hour not like the night before.

I actually got some good rest but now I just feel yucky. I hate these drugs and I hate this whole thing.

I have some new vitamins that should help improve my overall health and well being especially since I haven't been sleeping or eatin well. One is a liquid multi vitamin including a lot of b and b12 and then I got an herb called rhiodiola which is supposed to help a lot with improving your moods.

I hope your meds go over ok. Do you have any experience with taking vitamins and herbs?

I took zoloft a long time ago for depression, was on it about a year. I was just posting on someone else's question about increased yawning, because i remember that happening when first starting. and I think it also gave me some insomnia and weird/intense dreams and a weird feeling in my stomach, which made me eat less. I think these things went away after a few weeks. it did seem to help the depression.

but i've never taken it for anxiety. i've thought about it lately, but just don't think i want to go on it again. the side effects, the going on then off. this is not to say it is good or bad. and everyone has to find for themselves if the medication helps, how it effects them, etc.

i have taken fish oil before and helped with mood and anxiety, but was a subtle difference, kind of calming (took a few weeks to notice a difference). but i haven't tried it again since getting panic attacks... maybe i should. i've also found b vitamins really did improve mood/energy for a few hours after taking it. but i am wary of mixing supplements with medication.

Make sure you discuss w/your doctor before taking supplements in addition to zoloft. some, I believe rhiodiola, st. john's wort and some others are not good to take if you are already taking an antidepressant. not saying this to scare you and I am not a doctor! just saying always check first to be safe.

... just want to say, too, that I hear your frustration with all of this, and I'm right there with you. I really feel for you, and everyone here! I know it can be discouraging but you are not alone. I do believe we will find our way through this and life will improve!

This made me laugh and was so familiar: http://blogs.psychcentral.com/panic/2011/12/agoraphobia-as-it-happens-live-tweeting-my-panic-attack-at-target/

And I play this youtube video sometimes on my phone or at night. (It's long, but about halfway through he goes through a guided imagery for healing, and he talks about kind of training your brain to going to a safe, calm place, plus his voice is very soothing):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk7SQ6ZZxUM&list=UU85kX_lkwSOISRCnqMvI_kA&index=6

STW, sometimes when taking something new we (tend to have expectations of somethings going to happen) and sometimes it does because we set ourself up for it.
I do not have all the answers, if I did I would give them all away.

B6 makes me just a little nervous.
Fish oil is a good sugar stabelizer, take a look at K2 and D3 these are supose to be great for women
some large studies are available on line.
I am beginning to think I talk too much.

Thanks LW13, I got the rhiodiola and it was the wrong kind but I'll be emailing my dr all the info. I've heard Zoloft to work well to, except for getting off of it. We'll see.

LL, you are too funny "I am beginning to think I talk too much". Don't worry your not, it's all appreciated.
