Hi All,

My husband has social anxiety and has been having an especially hard time since we moved last summer.  He is now in a depression.  I have been looking into different kinds of therapy and found info about EFT (emotional Freedom Technique) and RRT (Rapid Resolution Therapy) and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with either one (good or bad).  He was on Xanax before we moved but was able to wean himself off after we moved.  He would rather not go the drug route if at all possible.  Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks, KO

Hi KO and welcome.

I am sorry to hear of your husband's axiety and reusulting depression.

You are both wise to seek out help for him, so that he can start to feel better both in social situations, and with the anxiety and depression in general.

I have heard of EFT, and some members have found help through it, but I would not say to the extent of the more well known CBT.

To my understanding EFT and RRT are used more for 'unlocking' and freedom from traumatic past experiences. (PTSD related issues)  If this is the case with your husband, then this would be a good choice...if not, then you may want to seek a therapy more specifically just for his SAD.

(social anxiety disorder)

Has your husband done any therapy work at all thus far?

I went through two coursed of CBT (for panic not social anxiety) and found it extemely helpful.

I have heard that group therapy based on CBT for social phobias is highly effective!

I am not trying to steer you away from either of your ideas, or sell you on mine...I am simply telling you of what I am familiar with.;)

Keep checking back and see what others have to say as well. I wish you both the best, and invite either of you to post with us anytime!

Hello All, My 26 year old daughter died suddenly a little more than a year ago. Of course, I was very depressed but it was compounded by the fact that I have had clinical depression all of my adult life. I really felt "stuck" in a very dark place. My counselor recommended RRT therapy. I had this therapy a week ago and it had had a profound positive effect on my life. Before, I could not think of my sweet daughter without immediately tearing up but NOW I think of her and can finally smile.

I spent $12k on electromagnetic pulse therapy and it DID work to some degree but without monthly bump treatments at $400 a pop, it is wearing off quickly.

Anyway, back to the RRT. My therapist played soft meditation music and talked softly to me. Before beginning, she had me describe a drawing of just colors which described my mood. I told her it was a black hole in the center, like a target, with grey merging outward with just slight curved lines of faint color on the edges. Pretty depressing, huh? Then she had me describe a happy, serene beautiful place I had been to. I described a beautiful field on top of a mountain that I used to visit as a teenager. Then she began the hypnosis and had me in that beautiful place. She asked me to look inward and pull out my "real" self. I would describe this as my soul. Then she had me invite my daughter's soul to join me in the field. We held each other and talked. My daughter told me that "everything would be okay, that I would be okay, and that we would be together again" She said she was in a beautiful place and happy there.

She also asked me what color represented happiness and serenity. It was royal blue. When my daughter was with me in the field, I was told to imagine the beautiful blue color surrounding us and going through us.

I literally felt our souls side by side and suddenly felt different. I felt that even though her body was not with me, her soul was with me. Since she was once part of my physical body, I felt strongly that she (her soul and all my memories of her) would always be with me and that I could let her go.

The session was much more involved than this. These are just the highlights. All I can say is that when I came out of it I felt DIFFERENT. I can't really explain it. All I know is that I was skeptical of RRT but became a true believer after experiencing it. I plan to ask my counselor if she can use RRT to address some other issues I have.

BTW, She asked me to describe the color image after the therapy and it was filled with warm, beautiful colors of serenity, including royal blue.

Dear jgalusha,

First of all, let me offer my condolences for your sudden and massive loss. Even though you are getting help for your grief, I know it is still beyond difficult to lose a child.

Thank you so much for sharing such a personal experience with us. That was truly a gift that you gave...for a reader who will come across and need just what you had to share.

I will keep this as a reference for future members dealing with grief, if that is okay with you?

I wish you continued healing, and invite you to post with us anytime for understanding, caring and support.

Thanks again for sharing,

Thank you Scaredy Cat for your kind words. Please, by all means keep me in mind for anyone who is grieving, especially the death of a child. There is nothing worse in the world EXCEPT having a child that is missing and never knowing. - Jill
