It could be a tonsil stone or an inflamed tastebud. Have u got a flashlight and looked around??

Hazle, please leave them alone, they have always been there, they are taste buds and when we start poking
around they get sore, keep your mouth clean and gargle about two times a day, the worst part is trying to
forget them especially if they are irritated. Your not that bored are you? lolololol Peace

i'm not bored - i for some reason am always focused on something bodily. yeah health anxiety i guess. maybe it's to keep my mind off of something else. i have no idea and my therapist doesn't seem to help either except to tell me to tell myself it's nothing to worry about. easier said than done. ha

If you open your mouth, and look in with a flashlight, or have someone peek in,...can you see white little lumps that resemble cottage cheese on your tonsils?

no the hygenist who cleaned my teeth the other day hurt my gums bad. she flossed so hard she was cutting my gums. and i sucked on a ludens yesterday which always makes my mouth sore on top.
weird i know but it's not thrush or my tonsils. i ate some pita chips last night with hummous and wondering if i punctured it with a chip. i have no idea. it's happened before.

So it's your gums that are sore then....ahh, I see.

For some reason, I thought it was the back of your throat.  Okay, gotchya.

And yep, they can be quite rough when they floss.  I currently have dentures, but back when I had teeth, regardless of being vigilant with my oral care, many hygienists left my gums bleeding and sore.

no it's the back of my tongue. those bumps back there feel enlarged. i was just thinking what could have irritated my mouth. it's red but not white like thrush. no when i swallow it feels weird like irritated. i need to just suck on a bunch of ice. i was gonna gargle with peroxide but afraid to. ha

I'd stay away from the peroxide while your mouth is irritated.

It may just make your tongue more angry.

I was confused,...when you mentioned this occurring after the hygienist wedgied your gums, I thought that's what you were then referring to, not actually your tongue since they don't (usually) go probing back there.

I know those bumps you mean, way back....way, way back where your tongue meets your throat?  Yep, I've had those get enlarged on me as well before and never knew why.

They're rather strange looking too, aren't they?  They look out of place,...for a tongue.

haha yes. :) i just stay focused on stuff. it's stupid i know. :P i keep wondering if i could have thrush on the back of my tongue so i'm eating acidophilus. ha probably has nothing to do with it. i haven't eaten anything weird or really acidy. been under alot of stress with starting back to work and starting hormones my doc told me to so maybe it's just stress. weird. i want it to go away!!! ha i did have a coffee from starbucks today so i'm sure that didn't help.

Not sure if this is similar or related, but for me, when mine got inflamed and painful it was because of GERD.

So I had to really tighten the reins on what types of foods I was eating.  I didn't necessarily have stomach pains or problems, and I didn't consciously feel like any active bouts of GERD were taking place, but this was the precursor.

The acid can kick up into our throats and irritate the backs of our tongues.

Staying away from trigger foods like coffee, tea, soda, fried foods, oily/greasy foods, dairy, certain deli meats, onions/garlic, hot peppers, tabasco sauce, certain nuts and seeds,...

I don't have any problems with things like lemons or limes or oranges....it isn't (for me, anyway) the acid, necessarily, but rather what the offending food product does once it has entered my stomach.  That is the culprit.

i do have GERD i think i am supposd to take medication but it's actually never been proved to me i have. i did burp up some acidy stuff a day or so ago though. hmmm thanks!!!! i'm sure the coffee today did make it worse again then. you can't eat anything really!!! i wonder if apple cider vinegar and pickles would help then? isn't vinegar supposd to neutralize it?

i did have a hamburger last night we made with coconut milk but i've been eating chocolate lately i bet that's it!

i just read online that progesterone can make acid reflux worse. think i'm going to stop it after 12 days cause it's not doing anything anyway. and my time of the month is even delayed which makes it even more ridiculous since i'm taking it to shed my uterine wall. ugh i wonder if that's why it's so bad cause of the progesterone. mayo clinic website said that.

yeah my doc said that it affects everyone differently and we will just have to cross our fingers. yeah bs - i'm not taking it anymore. i'm sure it's stressing me out and that's why those things are swollen on my tongue too. says it can make your gums inflammed and wondering if it can do that to my tongue too. geez, who knows. our guess is as good as any doctors in my opinion.

I've got the exact same thing I'm really really worried it's bothering me to the point where I'm so miserable and it's affecting my work and relationship. It feels like something is stuck at the very back left side if my tongue did you ever find out what this was or how long it took to go away. I also have health anxiety

hope it goes away soon!! don't worry - it's ok. i think i just gargled with salt water.

I find mine are caused by eating too much salt. They're almost like canker sores.
