I wrote in the Heartburn forum because that's what I thought I had. I don't know what to think now. I have been feeling like this for 2 days. I've lived with anxiety for about 17 years, but for the most part it's been mild since I've had kids. I'm on here once in awhile worried about something or other, but not often anymore. So I am thinking of just calling my regular doc today or tomorrow. My youngest daughter is home from school sick today so I didn't want to do anything about it earlier (plus I really hate going to the doctor and I feel stupid for being so anxious). I haven't felt this bad emotionally in so long I forgot how much it sucked! I am on feeling teary eyed and scared and at the same time trying to act normal around my dear child.
Sooo I don't get heartburn often, but the last year or two when I get it it takes up to 3 days to go away. I've tried Tums and Zantac and they are not doing anything this time. The pain is only under my breast bone in the middle of my chest. It's a burning/ squeezing feeling. I am 45 and have no physical traits for heart disease, but my brother did die of a heart attack at 54 (He smoked a lot, drank a lot and ate fatty foods most of his life though).

Hi, it's been a while since you posted today, how are you feeling, how is the pain? Many of the new members post their most recent test results, doctors they saw, not sure how much you looked into this before? Let us know what you've done.

It's still there, but not as bad. I haven't had any tests done. I went to my GP about 3 or 4 months ago and he told me that feeling heartburn for three days or less is OK if it doesn't happen frequently. He suggested I use Zantac when I get it.

Thanks Larry. I don't think it's my heart either, but I made the mistake of googling my symptoms. Did your heartburn ever lasdt this long?

Hi Paniccu,

I am sorry that you are experiencing returning anxiety. (although it is good to hear from you again.)

It could be that you are still having irritation from a particularly bad episode of reflux. It can take time to heal.

The last time you and your doctor talked, he mentioned that this is normal, so if it persists or gets worse, then go ahead and call him...otherwise, you are probably okay to keep treating at home.

I hope that you are feeling better really soon. Don't forget those coping skills to lower your overall anxiety and symptoms. :)

Talk to you soon,

S.C.

Thanks Scaredy Cat. It's good to hear from you too :-). I am feeling a little better today. I am going to eat only very small meals and make sure that I follow a GERD diet for now.

Please don't blow off the idea of taking the over the counter,
generic Prilosec I know how much difference it has made in my
life, by taking one every morning I can be quite careless in what
I eat, hot peppers anything, I wish you well, Peace

At this point I would be open to that! There are some things I don't want to go without forever. Do any of you with stomach issues ever feel like your stomach has pressure pushing up on it? I feel like I can o my eat a little bit at a time. I am not googling it. I don't want to have another panic attack. I am calling the doc tomorrow. I tried today, but they. had left early.

Yes, overactive acid production can cause bloating, and put pressure on the stomach.

Smaller, more frequent meals...like say 5 mini meals a day rather than 3 regular size is usually recommended for GERD sufferers.

I hope that you get some answers and peace of mind from talking with your doctor today.

Let us know how you are doing soon!

Thanks SC! I called and talked to the nurse today. She consulted with the doctor and he prescribed Zantac for a couple of months. I am going to try that and see what happens. I feel so much better today. I finally feel like I can eat again. I hope this works and it's no big deal. If not I will have to go to a GI doc I guess.

Hey there. I just wanted to check in. I had an ultrasound to rule out gallstones. Everything looked normal with my gallbladder, kidneys and aorta. I wish all tests could be so easy! I also went to the cardiologist because of my family history. They are going to do a stress test and some kind of electrocardiogram or something like that. The Zantac didn't do anything so my doc told me to take OTC Prilosec. You may have been right Larry! It is helping a bit, but I am still getting that burning feeling. I feel like someone took their fingernails and roughed up the inside of my stomach. The doc told me I can stay on Prilosec indefinitely and didn't mention doing any further tests. I am thinking that I should wait a month or so and then see how I feel. If I'm not better by then I think I should go to a gastrologist. I am concerned that I may have an ulcer, or worse. I don't want to let my anxiety get the best of me though. At what point would it be prudent to get further testing (i.e. and endoscopy)? I am not eager to rack up thousands of dollars in bills or to be put under, but I don't want to let something go and find out later it's serious. Also, is it normal for me to still feel like my stomach is roughed up and burning with the Prilosec? My daughter is on Nexium. I'm wondering if I should try a pill or two just to see what happens.

Hi Paniccu,

I am glad that your test came back as good results...and hope that your cardiac test will reveal the same, I am sure that they will.

Wishing you the best in getting the relief that you need for your stomach issues. Give the Prilosec some time. The fact that it is helping some is a good sign. Sometimes it just takes awhile for the irritation/inflamation to improve, and for the medication to take full effect.

Be well!
