I've always been on the maximum doses of my ADs and am currently on 60mg of Prozac. Of course, these have always been the generic brands which aren't always as good as the name brands (sometimes yes, sometimes no). I am thinking of asking my NP to increase my prozac to the max of 80mg when I go back on 7/29. I'm still getting thhose "on the edge" feelings sometimes, but do not know if that's just "life" or if it's my same old anxiety trying to come knocking on my door! As I am getting older, it is getting harder and harder for me to distinguish what's "normal" and what's not. I find that I am becoming less and less sure of myself about a lot of things. In other ways I have become stronger, I think...at least I hope so. Nonetheless, if more prozac will help me to not feel freaked out as bad by the things that I can't control, then that is still a blessing.
Any thoughts anyone? confused

J.L.

I think that at this point, you know yourself and how you feel/should feel very well...and that if you are thinking that you could benefit from an increase, then you should bring it up at your next appointment.

I hope that if you do decide to up your dosage, that this brings you much relief.:)

Please keep us updated as to what you how you end up proceeding.

J.L.   I am sorry to read that you are still feeling the "edge" and I know that feeling well. I suspect we are both looking for some solid peace in our lives and having been on meds for so long we recognize that perhaps a bit higher dose of the med we are taking may be our answer so do ask your NP to increase your dose. I frequently am on high doses of whichever AD that is working for me and right now it is Effexor XR 300 mg daily which is a bit higher than the recommended dose.   I keep you in my prayers and hope the increase is what will help you most right now.   Love, Kitt

I concur.

As the others have said, some of us *are* on higher-than-average doses of meds. But that's where our trust in our docs come in, their willingness to view us as unique individuals, and our special situations and bodies.

We are not all the same, we do not all need or not need exactly the same things!

You are unique. As are your body's requirements. I'd encourage you to discuss this option with your doc!

:)

SC, Merrida, and My Dearest Kitt,
Thank you all for your words of wisdom and thoughtfulness!
I will definitely ask my NP about going to the 80mg of prozac!
I ALWAYS have things weighing on my mind (who doesn't?!), but they seem to sit on my shoulders once they come to land! I DO continue to work on talking and reasoning with myself about the futility of that and try to distract myself too. It just seems like everything is coming in bigger bunches this year! PHOOEY! nonetheless, I will keep on trying and trying and working on it day by day and also when I go to the NP will try to go up to 80mg. I think she will agree to it.
Thank you trio of sweeties!
Love ya!

JL,

I know what you mean by our problems seem to get bigger and we did not ask for the supersized portion.

There is nothing about super-sizing my anxiety and depression sx. that appeals to me.

I would love to receive one of your informative and entertaining emails but knowing I cannot respond to many right now makes me feel guilty for even asking.

I love to hear how everyone is doing.

Love,

Kitt

Janetlee-

Have you ever tried mood stabilizers in combination with the Prozac? What about Buspar? My NP @ Pdoc self disclosed that she takes Lamictal (mood stabilizer) w/her Cymbalta. I took Abilify for a month but didn't notice much difference. BUT, it was added to my old Cymbalta which had sadly pooped out on me. I'm totally willing to try a mood stabilizer again if my new cocktail (Pristiq for 4.5 weeks now & added 100mg Wellbutrin (generic) today).

Hugs!

Hi, Lisa,
I've been on 60mg of Buspar for many years now. I was on abilify 2mg for a while at one time, but could tell no difference.
I hope your new med mix works great for you! :)
All the best!
