Hello Everybody!
This is the second time that I experienced this: I woke up at my usual 4AM but his time I could not go back to sleep, as soon as I will fall asleep I would wake up with like a scared feeling. This is horrible, I had no sleep last night!

Anyone here knows what this is called, or why it is happening. I assume it is my anxiety!
I had a bad argument last night with my wife .

On another note I was prescribed Effexor today, I am afraid of taking new medications due to a horrible prior experience.

Thank you for your time.

Josh

I've had this experience from time to time. It's like your just at the point where your about to pass out and suddenly just wake with a shot of adrenalin rushing through your body which in turns feels like a scared feeling cause you wake up all scared. It's a horrible feeling no doubt. When it happen try not to think about it too much. I know i've had it happen to me multiple times in one night before i could go to sleep. Sometimes ill just get up and do something or watch tv for a bit till i fall asleep.

I get this often. I have has long as I recall, and it's never gone away. That being said, it doesn't happen every single night/morning. But I'm guessing, for me anyway, during periods of high stress, subconscious fears still lurk even when our physical bodies are exhausted.

It does tend to happen more (that I've noticed) when I have unresolved issues.

Perhaps the anxiety over starting your new med?

Thank you for your prompt response Kalman and Merrida!

I think that it is, excessive stress!

Thank you again, I hope I do not feel like this again! I am also having a sleep study soon, I may have sleep apnea and it is possible that this is why my anxiety is so bad!

Have a great week!

joshwee,

I agree - this is probably stress and anxiety induced.

I am on Effexor and have been for a couple of years not.  I always take it in the morning. I have been on lots of different AD meds and find it is always anxiety provoking when starting a new one.

I hope you can start the med as it may eventually solve some of your stress and anxiety.

Hi joshwee,

I experience this a lot especially when I'm under a lot of stress or really depressed about something. My sleep is affected greatly like it is right now.

I also experience a lot of anxiety over starting new meds, I started a thread about that before so I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I try hard to convince myself that I won't know the affects if I don't take the leap and give it a try.

It can be easier said than done, I know... but you're not alone.

Thank you family!

I am so happy to know that lots of strangers care about each other.

" At first I was afraid.

I was petrified.

I kept thinking I could never live

With you by my side.

I will survive.

As long as I know how to love

I know I'll be alive.

I've got all my life to live.

I've got all my love to give.

I will survive.

I will be more than fine!"

Ditto for me too with the sleep issues! I'll be almost asleep and I get hit with a shot of adrenaline. What I find that helps is creating a comfy cozy sleep environment. A fan going or some ambient noise helps. There's lots of cool interesting sleep apps if you have a smartphone. also Don't keep anything stressful in the bedroom like a pile of bills or to do list;). And try to resolve issues before going to bed. I also like to watch ASMR videos on YouTube, they make me very relaxed and drowsy.

As far as new meds. Yep, scary for all of us! I'll be starting a new one soon and I always worry I'm going to get some bad crazy reaction while I'm at work. Gah! I know everyone is different but I can tell you I was on effexor for 4 years with no issues.

Best of luck!
