Recently I went out of town to Atlanta to celebrate turning 32 and had to go to the ER where they said I had gastritis and not to mention anxiety hit me at the same time. So I was prescribed prioslec and Xanax and have been taking it for 5 days. I'm so depressed feel like I can't talk long periods of times before having to take a breathe. Did cat scan, EKG , chest X-ray , blood work and everything is fine. I have been highly stressed out lately and most of all the stomach issue is giving me more anxiety because I don't like being sick because I have children who rely on me. I normally recover from my anxiety attacks pretty quick and can go back to my normal day to day activities but this time I can do much at a time like clean my house before have to take a rest due to shortness of breathe. Any advice

hi brandnew. welcome to the forum. sounds like some coping skills may be effective. i de-stress with music, i get gastro with anxiety......i hear ya. what do you like to do that is calming? whatever it is do it. some deep breathing exercises and using soothing repetitive words helps as well. the one i use is this shall pass. distractions help me as well. keep talking with your doc. have you considered some therapy as an option? i highly recommend it. keep well. i keep you in my healing thoughs.

Hi B.N. and welcome.

I am so sorry to hear about your illness. I understand that gastritis can be very painful, and take awhile to fully recover my healing thoughts and prayers go out to you!

It may take some time to fully come back to strength. You body and mind have been though a lot, so be patient with yourself and the process of recovering.

H.T. mentioned some great coping skills to try for relief of the anxiety/symptoms.:) Here is the link to our Resources for some more ideas along those lines!
