I think Hibee gave you the best answer but for me it's a crap shoot really.
The times that I think it works instantly, I know are just a placebo affect and I'm calming down because I know there's peace in sight. I've found that if I take it on an empty stomach it works in about
20 minutes, but if I've eaten, you can make that about
40 and it doesn't feel as effective. Depending on what your concerns are, you may wanna ask your doctor about
a different benzo. I believe Xanax is the go to though. The very first attack I ever had years ago, I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. I took xanax back then because I had anxiety but it had never happened in this form where my heart was up in the 150's and I couldn't breathe. They did all the appropriate tests at the hospital and started pumping me full of Ativan. The doctors were shocked that my heart rate wasn't skowing down and I wasn't calming. They had to give even more Ativan and after hours they let me go home. Clearly not the drug for me. Valium on the other hand slows me down FAST and just gives me an overall sense of calm. Anyway, they're all different!
