How horrible for you both. Nothing anyone can say will make it better. When I get anxious about my own or family members situation, I remind myself that I just can't control everything, I just can't fix everything, and I need to be able to just accept what is, in those situations.
That probably sounds trite, but it's all I've got. I think those things while I do breathing exercises, which I learned by doing biofeedback with a psych who specializes in it.
Meds aren't a bad idea either, I'm on Zoloft, low dose. It helps, without getting me buzzed.
