Hey everyone. I've been freaking out about something for a while now and it all started a year ago when I got mono. I had mono for a few months and one of the major symptoms of mine was a really bad sore throat. As time went on I began researching swollen lymph nodes (bad idea) and soon developed a fear of having lymphoma. So basically a year after mono my lymph nodes in my neck are still swollen. these lymph nodes are located underneath my jaw and are rather hard/rubbery and they don't really move very much. I felt the lymph nodes under my moms jaw and I remember feeling a pea sized movable squishy one which seemed harmless. But mine are probably around 2-3cm large. when I tilt my head and neck back, I can feel the lymph nodes a lot more versus just feeling them when my head is straight. I feel like on both the left and right sides of my jaw I can feel at least 2 or 3 lumps like these. I cannot tell if its just the natural texture or not because I feel like normal lymph nodes should feel like the one I felt on my mom. my throat still gets sore from time to time especially when I'm stressed or going to be on my period soon. I am so worried and freaked out and cannot stop worrying about being something like lymphoma. I've had a chest X-ray, ultrasound of the bottom of my collarbone, and ultrasound of my abdomen which all came back clear but I feel like the problem is the lymph nodes under my jaw. I research this day and night and I'm just really scared. the lymph nodes are defiantly pretty fixed and I don't know if they have gotten bigger, but I have been prodding them a lot which could contribute to some sweeping perhaps. I'm so tired of living with this fear for a year now and its consuming all my energy. I seem to be having day sweats and hot flashes as well and have been sleeping a lot and finding that I do not have the energy always to do things I did before. mono really did a number on me and I don't know if maybe all this is just lingering symptoms of mono. I also often have abdominal pain. overall the size and texture and number of the lymph nodes worry me and the sweating worries me as well. I deal with slight anxiety. Ive been to the doctors so many times for this and I just want it to be over with. please someone give me advice on if I should be worried or if this could be normal. thank you!!

Hi Dancer and welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your related illness, symptoms and worries that has resulted from this ordeal. Being sick can definitely be a trigger for health anxiety...so know that you are not alone with this challenge.

If your doctor and tests have all assured you that you are healthy and not showing signs of the issues that you fear...

...then treating the anxiety as the root cause of this issue is going to be the next step that you want to take.

No doubt your doctor has told you that the Mono virus can linger for a long time in the body...and though you are feeling better overall, certain factors can threaten a relapse. It is for this reason that the lymph nodes can take time to return to normal size.

Like you said, stress...as well as fatigue may cause your symptoms to try and return...

...so getting as much rest as possible, as well as practicing self help techniques for anxiety management will help.

See the top of the main forum page here for our Resources. You'll find great material to get started with there. smile

If you find it helpful, keep us posted on how you are doing...we will do our best to keep you encouraged!

I went to see my doc a few months ago because I became more aware of the lymph node on the right side of my jaw line. She felt around and couldn't really find anything. I only really notice it when I look down and to the right. Even then I have to make the conscious effort to make sure I feel it.

I then realized I have the same one on the left side. Doc ran some blood tests on me and everything was fine. I did notice the less I touch or play around with them the less I notice and the better it is.
