Okay guys... soI know this might sound crazy, but I need help.

I am terrified right now that I contracted rabies and will be coming down with it soon.

I will preface with this.. this is not the 1st or 2nd time.. but the 4th time I've had this scare... rolleyes

I went to bed monday night, and was having a really really hard time sleeping, I was having bad dreams and kept feeling like something was breathing down my neck as I slept I kept waking up and falling back asleep... I woke up to what felt like something was biting my foot at like 2 am... I felt around with my foot.. felt my husbands foot and fell back asleep.

The next day.. i remembered the incident and started searching around the bed as well as looking at my foot to see if there was anything. Here is the thing, I am a photographer, so just 2 days before I was trapesing through high grass with thorns, and just that evening I was down on the beach on the rocks photographing. Well.. of course I see 2 holes that resemble what I think is a bat bite.. one hole is small one is larger... so now I've convinced myself that a rabid bat got in and bit me in the middle of the night.. and left without a trace...

There is a small hole that the cable guy drilled to run a cable into our room... now... the hole was covered with cobwebs in the inside running across it.. if a bat came through that.. certainly those wouldn't be there right? Exactly... I've tried to talk myself out of it.. but my brain keeps telling me I felt a bite, and I see small holes....

Can someone talk more sense into me? I keep trying to but keep slipping backwards.

BTW, I have gone to therapy before, I know I have a hypochondriact and majorly creative mind... but sometimes I feel alone :/... My husband is super supportive but can't really talk me out of it, cause he doesn't understand it, and honestly.. I don't expect him to be able to... so any support from my fellow anxiety-ridden friends would help...

Hi

First of all welcome to the forum you will find good support here from others who understand what you are going through.

Anxiety is very good at making us believe things which are not true so I think it's very unlikely that a bat bit you.

It sounds to me like you are dealing with health anxiety which can really take over your life if left untreated so it's important to do all you can to reduce your anxiety we have some great links in our resources section so take a look. I would also suggest that if things are really worrying you that you go and speak with your doctor and see what they suggest.

How did you find therapy? It's a great way to get back on top of things especially if you did CBT.

Keep us posted we are here for you.

Hi GDG and welcome!

I am sorry to hear about your current worries regarding contracting rabies. This is actually a pretty common fear among health anxiety sufferers...so know that you are not alone in this! (if you do a 'Search' here in the forums, you will find other's threads on the same subject...including my own!)

I can tell that you know your anxiety is not reflecting your true thoughts. Your rational thinking is there...it's just being drowned out by the anxiety that speaks louder!

I know exactly how this feels, and have been there myself. It is frustrating to be sure. :/

Here is the link to our Resources. Inside you will find great self help material to reduce your overall anxiety levels (Stress Relieving Exercises Link, Meditation Videos) as well as tools to help you work through the irrational thoughts and worries. The 'Therapy Worksheets' are a great way to diffuse frightening thinking patterns....as is the 'Positive Mantras and Affirmations' link.

Working these coping skills will help you to feel better in time. Give them a try...and keep posting for encouragement and support if you find it helpful. smile

Thank you guys for your kind words and help.

I have been through therapy and usually can work my way out of something... and I know that I will... but there is always a "but" in it..

In this situation I keep hearing.. "but something woke you up in the middle of the night" "but... you had to have gotten bitten by something.

And I keep hearing... "but you have two small holes" not... "but you also were out walking on the sand and in tide pools... "

Then I keep hearing, "but why is your foot feeling tingly, "but why do you feel funny"

its these obsessive thoughts that are tripping me up.

I actually did go to urgent care.. lol they told me they don't even know what a bat bite looks like.. we live in California... harder to find bats... but I do live in a wooded area...

ugh i know i know... im trying to not worry!

Guys I just can't shake this...

I was fine for a few days, and then this anxiety reared its ugly head with a vengeance again! I started becoming really tight in the chest and short of breath... almost like someone was squeezing my throats and sitting on my chest!

I went to dr for refill ok gerd medication as I went off it for about a week- only been on it 5 days now but this feeling keeps coming back more often than not...
Itchy throat-- feels like someone's grabbing my neck- and sitting on my chest... out of breath when I walk...

I can't help but think it's rabies, and the symptoms are developing...

I made the mistake of going online again and reading something about a bat coming in biting and leaving whilen I was sleeping....ugh I'm so tired of this!

Please help!

GDG,

I am sorry you are feeling so challenged still.sad

What you describe are symptoms of anxiety...not rabies.

Keep taking your GERD med, and practicing good lifestyle habits for gastro health....

...and keep practicing coping skills to keep your anxiety managed.

...and last, bit not least, stay away from 'Dr. Google' He is neither helpful or accurate!

You are going to be okay.

It's so annoying - I was doing better- then I started feeling symptoms!

I know they arnt but it's so hard rhink they arnt... cause the symptoms I have are symptoms of it! Like just this morning I'm starting to feel a sore throat which I logically know is probably the dry air ( I live in California).... but somehow I keep worrying it's not!

I'm doing the best I can but it's s hard!

Fellow Cali girl here! smile Our air is really dry and smoggy now with the fires up North...thank goodness for some breeze yesterday and a little today, but it's still pretty bad. :/ My daughter has a sore throat right now too!

Use the Therapy Worksheets and Positive Mantras links from the Resources to combat these worries...keep practicing them and they will help.

Thanks for the encouragement... I know in my head it's my allergies but it's so hard! And I keep getting surges of adrenaline ( I know cause I had adrenal fatigue) last year... that just wear me
Out.

I hope your daughter feels better! Doing my Neti pot today..

I can't find that section... mind posting the link?

Thanks!
