I'm 36 years old, and I was on birth control up until two years ago. I initially went on BC in my late teens for horrid periods. I had a very regular period and normal PMS symptoms during my twenties.

My periods have become progressively worse for the past two years. Heavier periods, more cramping, upset stomach, sweating. about a week before my period I am getting more migraines and my anxiety is through the roof. During this time I feel near panic, heart palpitations, and light headed.

Is this typical as you age? What can I do to help my anxiety during this time?

Lrm,

I am sorry to hear of the difficulty with the hormonal shifts you are experiencing...I understand completely what you are describing.

Perimenopause (which can last for years leading up to your final menstrual period) can be a challenge emotionally, as well as physically.

Good nutrituon, exercise and coping skills for mood/anxiery are all crucial.

For the latter, please check out our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material to work with.

Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful We care, understand and support is key!

My period affects my anxiety because I usually get anxiety when I begin to feel uncomfortable. Cramps, moodiness, upset stomach, digestive issues all cause anxiety for me. I'm sure it also has something to do with the hormones but with me any time I'm slightly uncomfortable I get anxiety

Hey LRM
This is me and I’m 38 I was on lexapro for 7 months which I accidently stopped in May and have been ok there have been a couple of cycles where I was like this but it’s only for two or three nights at a time then it’s like a switch is flicked of and everything is normal my sleep and the over thinking stops. My issue is eventually this will carry onto everyday life and it will start happening more often. I don’t have trouble falling asleep it’s once I’m asleep I wake up sweating and breathing heavy, and because of my constant worrying and overthinking it snow balls and makes everything get worse. Do you get this at all???
