I was diagnosed with anxiety in high school; currently 24. Got prescribed Fluoexetine; gradually bumped up to 50mg. After taking it faithfully for a few years, I just sort of cold-turkey stopped. (Not smart, I know.) Might have gone back on it once or twice but can't remember when. Anyways, lately been having a lot of anxiety, especially health anxiety, and I feel like I should absolutely be taking it again. My question is, is it okay for me to just start taking again at 50mg (I take a 40 and a 10), or should I maybe start with a 10 or a couple 10s and see how I do? Thanks.

I actually started with 25 mg. If you feel more comfortable with starting on 10 mg, then start with that. Give it a couple weeks before increasing the dose.

Thanks for your reply. When I first started taking the meds in high school, I started on a 10 and gradually bumped up in increments of 10. The only real side effect I can ever recall having w/ fluoxetine was a difficulty to orgasm, but as I understand it this is a fairly normal thing... Either way, I'm anxious enough that I'd probably rather put up with that for a bit and see how I do, and then if it gets to be too annoying I can always discuss with a doctor about maybe if a different med would be better for me. But right now being on nothing certainly isn't doing my anxiety any favors, and the last few weeks feel like my anxiety has been ever-increasing. :/

I would suggest you start at a lower dose and gradually work up from there until you reach your target dose but you would be best speaking with your doctor about this.

I try not to worry about the future -- so I take each day just one anxiety attack at a time.
