Hi everyone.

I have antenatal depression and anxiety. After months of torture, I decided to give zoloft a try on 08/11. At first, I started at 12.5, then to 25, and now 50 mg for the last 4 weeks. Last week, (week 7) I felt so much better again and could do things I could not do in a long time. However, for the last few days, my anxiety and depression has been creeping up again. Does this mean I need a higher dose of the meds or is it normal to have some off days? Please help.

Faith,

With any SSRI, or medication for that matter, I think there will be great days, tolerable days, and days where you think "hmm, is this really working?" Not to mention, you are still very early on in your journey with Zoloft, so it could still be working out some kinks in your system.

Give it some time and things will level out. If you are concerned, I'd call your doctor and discuss and see if you need to adjust the meds.

Thanks so much for your response and encouraging post. You have nailed down my thought process quite accuratelty. I have been in regular contact with my psychiatrist, who has insisted that 100 mg is a therapeutic dose since day 1. However, since I am pregnant, I am hoping the 50 mg can hold me over until I give birth. I guess I will have to wait and see but am so encouraged by your post-thank you!

Of course, happy to help! I was on 100mg of Zoloft for 10 years and am in the last phase of weaning off. If I remember correctly even though I was only in my teens, I had days where it still crept up, but as soon as I found a good working dose, it was great.

I'm pretty sure you feel therapeutic benefits from Zoloft at 50mg, and anything below is just maintenance. At least that's what I've always been told and heard.

Congratulations on your little one on the way! What a beautiful time in your life!

Hi faith!

Yes, congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope that you can get your regimen just to where you need it to be in order to fully enjoy this amazing time in your life!

I agree that you should wait out this period, as it could just pass and end up being the plateau that you seek at the 50 mg.

Use your coping skills to get you through the rough days, like you have been having...and wait for that leveling out again that you need.

We will be here to cheer you on, so post as needed!

Thanks again, scaredy! Dan, I am glad that 50mg turned out to be a good dose for you, I am hoping it will eventually even out for me. Did you find it lost any effectiveness over time? Last night was much better for me!

yes it did lose punch over time but it took 6 years. I had 6 good years on Zoloft at 50 mg with few side effects.
