Hi Mark and welcome!

I think your P-doc was being an optimist if he said you'd be feeling relief after just one week.

This is not to say that it never happens...but it is not typical for most people starting up.

2 full weeks...even up to 6 is the average window where the majority of people start to note benefit from their Rx.

Hang in there, and know that things will improve soon...

...and see our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great self help material to work with to help you feel your best.

Post with us anytime for support and encouragement!

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

It can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks before you start seeing an improvement so stick with it and in the meantime use any coping skills you have to help reduce your anxiety we have some good links in our resources so take a look.

Hibee

Good plan...there really is some excellent material in there...and the suggested exercises if practiced daily will make a big difference in how you feel.

Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful!

Hi all, just coming up to 6 weeks of cipralex now and must say its been wonderful med for me feel like im almost back to normal and suffering no side effects other than wanting to stay in bed in morning and struggle a bit to get up.
Was wondering how long im likely to need to take the med for. Im due for follow up with psychiatrist next week where im sure he will say just continue with 10mg dose and come to see me again in 6 weeks

Hi Mark 43,
I am almost at my 6 week mark for Ciprolex (Lexapro, escitalopram). 2 weeks at 5mg and then 10mg. I started feeling really good at about 3 weeks in but now a bit of anxiety is back (for 5 days now) Did you have ups and downs too? I am wondering if I need a higher dose or if I should ride out the 10mg a bit longer. It has only been 3 weeks at 10mg. I have a doc appointment next week but of course cause I'm anxious I want an answer now! LOL.

C.,

The drug name is Escitalopram...and different drug manufacturers market under individual names...Lexapro and Ciprolex.

Confusing, I know!!

Hi Candy 2017
Yes i had lots of ups and downs especially from week 1 to week 3 i too started on 5mg for one week and then stepped up to 10mg i remember on day 14 i felt terrible and wanted to stop. The following week i had a couple of good days and have steadily improved since.I have read that it can take anything up to 8/10 weeks for the full effect of the meds to kick in so stick at it .There are some amazing people on here who will give you advise, i hope things improve for you and try and keep busy, eat well, sleep well and exercise it all helps

Thanks Mark43. Yes, I am very optimistic that this med will help, but it sucks when I was doing well for 2 weeks straight and then back to being anxious. I'm almost more let down now because I was felt awesome week 3 and 4. I feel like I went backwards. We'll see what the doc says. I actually got in today at the end of the day.

there are 2 different names because while from the same drug family-the 2 are a bit different. Lexapro is much stronger than cipralex. their chemical formula is slightly different. lex is supposed to be better fro deeper depression and is also approved fro anxiety disorder. I wanted to know the differences so I studied about them . I also have taken both and can tell you first hand -lex is far stronger than cipralex. 40 mg cipralex is = to 20 Lexapro. lex has fewer side effects and dosnt react to as many other meds. in short Lexapro is an inproved version but I could not tolerate it but am fine on a low dose of cipralex. we all react in different ways to various meds esp ssri

So I saw GP today- I have weathered my first two weeks at 0.5. whew! not fun...Don't know if anyone else has filled out the quesitonaire when they take this med. I did when I started it and scored 19/20 (think it is out of 20) and today scored 13 - the lower the better...so she was pleased with that... not sure I feel it lower but anyhow, I mentioned I heard the therapeutic dose was 10 mg. and she asked if i wanted to stay on 0.5 longer or try the 10 mg. I don't want to go higher but even more I don't want to delay feeling better so we decided that I would start tomorrow on the 10mg but if the side effects are too much to go back to the 0.5. I think it was Mark that said day 14 was bad.... any ideas on what I can expect? I know it is different for everyone... the nausea, the diahrrea, doesn't worry me as much as the jitters and racing thoughts....I went 6 days without Ativan and was ecstatic though I have since had some trembling days where I have taken about three (0.5 mg)
I did ask the Dr. if she was sure there was light at the end of the tunnel.... she said she believes in 6 weeks I will be feeling so much better. From her lips to God's ears.
So again, might the side effects be doubled as the med is?
Thanks very much everybody!

WTOM,

You will not necessarily have increased s/e's with your start up...some don't, so hope for the best, but it is good that you can plan on going back to .5 if you need to.

It can be that you need to bump up to get to a therapeutic point where the Rx is actually doing something for you...so getting to the minimum dose is a good goal, IMO.

Wishing you continued improvement! Remember it's not often a linear line...but you are on the right path!

Stay encouraged., and keep us updated so we can cheer you on. smile

I had no side effects except sexual . if you can go 6 days with no Ativan -you have it beat and no worrys there. Ativan has a short half life and you cant go even 2 days without if you are dependant. so again nothing to worry about there. good show. you will get better soon

My doc upped my dose from 10mg to 15 mg last Friday. I can feel the side effects again. Not as bad as start up but the anxiety level is higher again, dry mouth, and nausea which I haven't had since I started this med 6 weeks ago. I had no side effects when I went from 5mg to 10mg so hopefully you wont either. Everybody is do different though. Good luck!!
