Hello everyone!

So I believe that health anxiety has taken over my life. The past few days I would not want to do anything but stay home. This has taken a toll on me because I feel like I should be more productive. The reason for my health anxiety is due to my dog. I have developed this fear that she might contract rabies. My dog loves to stay outside majority of the day as well as sleep outside at night. I get paranoid that if I leave her at home for a bit, that she will have an encounter with a wild rabid animal. I'm not sure why I have this fear because I have had my dog for about 6 years now and I've never had a problem with her and wild animals and also because she is a big dog (Akita). I guess the more I read about rabies and stories on the internet, it freaks me out more. I want to just let this fear go so I can move on with my life and enjoy it but I just don't know how to. I feel like I can't talk to anyone about this so this is why I'm posting here. Does anyone have a similar story as me? ):

Hello and welcome!

The fear of rabies is a consistent topic that is posted about here pretty know that you are not alone!

We have some really good self help that may be just what you need to relieve your fears in our Resources at the top of the main forum page here. Use the 'Therapy Worksheets' to work through these worries, and come to a rational thought process about this.

Also please stop reading up on rabies on the internet. You are only fueling your fear. Talk to your dog's vet about your concerns, and I am sure you will feel better when you hear you are not at risk. smile

If you find you continue to have issues with anxiety, talking to your doctor about your options for management will be a good next step.

Post anytime with us for encouragement and support!
