Hi everyone, im new here and dont know where to start, but here it goes.. I am 50 yrs young, and was my mother's only care taker for many years! It was the hardest, most heartbreaking and most stressful time of my life! Its been two years since her passing and I who was generaly healthy then, am falling apart now. I guess the toll of it all has hit me!
Last year I finally had to get a primary doc. I became obese, developed bilateral osteoarthritis in my knees, high blood pressure and was told I had complicated grief disorder. I lost my brother last year at 51 from an anyurism. He was all I had left for family.
Well anyway my dr prescibed anxiety and depression meds and i didnt take them. I was doing ok until he put me on cholesterol medication and a month later I started with headaches and my bp dropped pretty low and heart started skipping a few times a day. So he stopped the chol med and I monitored my bp for 3 days and it stayed low so he stopped the metaproplol 50mg. Its been one month today and it has been a month of hell! The heart skipping dozens of times every day and the past 3 weeks at night only,I have been getting dizzy, short of breath and very nervous. I am assuming this is anxiety or pannic attacks, because it gets worse when I realize im all alone. It lasts about an hour or so and then passes after I try to phych myself out of them I actually have to stick my head out the window and deep breath, wierd huh? But it does help.
I told my dr about the heart skipping but not about my night attacks because i dont want to have heart tests done because just thinking about it right now im getting wicked anxious and tiggly in my lower back. He said in response to the heart skipping that its probally anxiety so im spending this month trying to see whats triggering it!
I have stopped drinking crystal light because they say the aspartame in it could make the heart skip and too much can make you have a nervouse feeling so its been 2 days now without it. I drank at least a 2 liter bottle of starwberry CL daily. I also quit smoking 2 yrs ago and now vape. But a week ago i cut down from a 16mg nicotine to a 6mg. Im trying to figue out what the heck is tiggering all this? Can it be menopause? I read thst can cause all the symptems im having as well!!!
Any help/oppinions/expieriences would be appreciated. I feel like im going crazy. And tonight i will be trying out the chat blog on here becsuse i know whats coming as night sets in and i dont want to be alone. Im hoping all this will pass!!!!

Hi LR and welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your mom's passing, and the subsequent stress that you have been experiencing lately. I understand that very well, as I am also the type of person, who gets the job done (no matter how difficult) but then falls apart with anxiety symptoms after the fact.

I suspect that is what is going on here...so once you can get in to rule out any other physical possibility...you can confidently start to work on your anxiety management.

There are many options including medication, therapy and self help. The first two would be discussed with your doctor for Rx and/or referral...

...but self help you can get started on right away! In our Resources at the top of the main forum page here you'll find great material that teaches Stress Relieving Exercises and other coping skills such as Meditation, use of Postive Mantras, Mindfulness and more. Practicing these will make a big difference in how you feel. (we have a couple of links specifically on PVC's/palpitations so be sure to check them out!)

As far as our Chat feature....unfortunately it is not very active. However, you can post here as needed, and someone will be here to reach out to you and hopefully give you the reassurance you need during your most challenging times.

We understand, care and support is key...so keep posting. smile

Welcome Lee the forum!

I am so sorry for loss of your mom !Its indeed difficult time of your life .On top of it your dear bro !

Hope you have strength to move on and grieving period is over for you soon.

Yes night time anxiety is high for me too and also being alone is a definite trigger.

I am on meds which should calm me down but sometimes they are not enough.
Get a grief counsellor to help you deal with this grieving period ,they can be covered by most insurances.

Feel frr to write here any time !
