Has anyone tried doing yoga to relax?

I have severe anxiety as well as depression. My therapist told me I need to find a way to relax. But so much is going wrong at work, and my health seems to be going downhill. I'm unable to do intense exercise like I want to, but walking the dog just isn't enough. I was thinking maybe yoga would help calm me down. Anyone have experience with this, and is it better to go to a class or just find videos and do it at home?

Hello PB and welcome!

I think you should definitely give the yoga a try. I believe and have found that all forms of exercise are beneficial for anxiety management, and finding a balance between both cardio/faster pace and more relaxed forms of movement such as yoga is a great goal.

You many want to start with some youtube videos for beginning postures and practice before walking into a class, so that you feel confident with familiar moves.

In addition to exercise, practicing self help anxiety managment methods is a must as well. If you need ideas to start, or to find more tools to add to your existing regiment...please see our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material.

Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful. We understand, care and support is key!
