It sounds like you have done a lot of good work in getting the answers and management that you need...well done! I have no doubt that your counseling will bring much more progress with time and continued efforts, so hang in there...you are on the right path!
I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with a new and bothersome symptom of the anxiety. The air hunger sensation that you describe is a common one, so know that you are not alone. I have had this on occasion, and it is very uncomfortable, for sure.
Breathing exercises will help. Even though they do cause you to focus in on your breathing...which seems to bring more discomfort initially...with time and practice, it is going to actually help.
