Hello wonderful folks of the healingwell forums!
I apologize for my lack of activity. I don't want to be a member of this wonderful community that only comes in when I have issues, but life has been busy (4th year PhD work! Fingers crossed for only two more!)
I recently weaned off of 50mg of Zoloft after 2 years on it. I felt numb, unmotivated, and I gained significant weight that running every day couldn't shake. The emotional suppression and weight gain made me feel worse than the anxiety did.
I'm seeing a new doctor (same office; my p-docs have a tendency to finish their fellowships and leave) who took my concerns seriously and started me on 25mg of fluvoxamine to then increase to 50mg for my OCD. She also ordered a GeneSight test. A GeneSight test (think 23andMe with less advertising) involves doing a cheek swab and they then determine what drugs/drug classes may and may not work for you based on your expression levels of genes required for metabolizing these drugs. Spoilers: My results say I'm pretty bad at all psychoactive drugs, which I 100% believe. Everything I've ever been on is listed under "moderate gene-drug interactions", which is between "yeah you should be fine" and "NOPE".
After a few weeks on 50mg, I started getting alarming heart palpitations that did not go away so now I'm back on 25mg until I can see the doctor again.
Does anyone have experience with fluvoxamine, side effects, and weaning? It's been great otherwise. I think my crazy thoughts but they don't upset me anymore. I'm back to drawing, writing, and reading like a normal person.
