So I’ve been diagnosed with GAD, Panic Disorder and Depression for 8 years now, and just in the past couple weeks it’s spiraled out of control. I constantly feel out of breath and on edge, I had the paramedics called for them to tell me I was 100% okay and it was just a panic attack, and I can barely make it through a six hour shift at work without freaking out and feeling like just walking out and being jobless. It’s getting to the point where I’m at a loss for what to do. I feel rather hopeless. Anyone have any advice? I want to take my life back, but it seems impossible...

I've had anxiety attacks and they are a horror.

You can always go to the emergency room and they will give you some tranquilizers to calm you down, and hopefully enough for the next few days. They will take care of you.

I went to the ER recently with severe chest pain, and they really took care of me.

If you're able to now, can you make an appointment with a psychiatrist? As for which one, you can look on the internet search engine under "psychiatrist for your home town." You can choose a male of a female, perhaps one near you.

You can also look under "mental health centers for your hometown." They will have a sliding scale, where you only pay what you can afford.

Are you able to do that? Do you believe that you can do this?

Hi and welcome. Check out hw resources page...good info.
Yep depression and anxiety tend to go together; the good thing is it can be very well managed.

For panic episodes. Big breath thru nose...deep into lungs and purse lips and release air slowly and completely. Repeat.

Distraction is important. Keeps thoughts from ruminating and building up and anxiety rears and an ensuing panic attack.

I use music...my go to. Definetely have a chat with ya gp and advise what is happening and when. Triggers are important to be aware of.

Just know that we get ya. Keep being 💪 and posting for support info and sharing. You have done awesome by reaching out here.

Keep strong. HT

Hello and welcome!

We are glad you are here, though sorry it is due to returning/increasing anxiety. We understand how disappointing, frustrating and challenging this is

What does your treatment history look like? Have you been through therapy? Are you, or have you been on medication? What do you feel was the most helpful...is revisiting or revising your regimen a possibility? Sometimes a booster in therapy and a med consult is necessary to get us back on track and where we need to be to feel our best again.

Great advice above, so do look into using all of the tools available to you...and know that you can come talk with us and find support and encouragement anytime you need it!

Talk soon,

I can't add anything to what these others have said but I will say that people here genuinely care so you've come to the right place.

I don’t have much to add either, all of the above advice spot on! Find a good doc, work on breathing techniques and low stress things that you can focus on when you feel the panic building. Art, calming music and reading have been my go to tools, as well as reaching out to a friend to distract me. Sending my support your way!

Hi Raesa,

Just checking in on you. Wondering how you are doing with the anxiety??? I just want to echo the breathing exercises because they really do help.

Let us know how you are doing...

Hugs, Karen...
